Hope it was a good day for walkin!

  3. Robert says:

I just looked at the map and saw where you are.

Don’t forget to purify yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka

  4. Katie says:

Minnesota has a ridiculous amount of “world’s largest” things.

  5. Michael says:

    Those are great boots…

  6. Craig (Yeah..from NC) says:

wtf MATT? No pic of the World’s largest boot? Well it’s a one of a kind!

  7. Aaron says:

The place I told you about today was Ecola Seafoods Restaurant in Cannon Beach, OR. check it out when you get there.

  8. Niels says:

    Hi Matt,

I just wanted to tell you that your adventure is featured today in the dailygood email newsletter. It’s a newsletter filled with inspiring stories about happyness. http://www.dailygood.org/more.php?n=4137

Your decision to embark on this trip really is inspiring. It’s easy (in general) to think about what you want, but it takes serious effort to make the first step that will get you there.

I wish you good luck on your journey, and I hope that you find what your are not looking for.

    Niels (from the Netherlands)

  9. Mark says:

    “Showdown”? Don’t you mean “shoedown”?

Also: I live in perpetual envy of your trek; keep it up!

  10. Gwen says:

Please tell me you are going to see the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota.

    Someone had to say it.

  11. Jodi says:

i’d like to meet the man who owns those shoes!!!

  12. Karen says:

    Hey Matt !
I’m barely able to walk anymore (“Disabled Senior”…ya know, one of those insane “labels” our society may try to put on people ?)…but, in my heart, I’m walking WITH you. Via my computer. I live in Washington State now (A transplant from California). Have a close friend living near Red Wing, MN… ‘n also have “Family Roots” there… from my elders…who survived some rather brutal MN living conditions ‘n such.
Today ? I’m still a SEEKER, like you seem to be too. I WORE RED WING BOOTS when backpacking (at a younger-than your-age-now ? Age, to me, doesn’t matter !)… while on treks, “out there”, in California Wilderness areas. Even radio connections then were unreliable or unavailable. I didn’t worry, tho. Doesn’t matter to me today either…whether I FIND things/people/new goals, etc. It’s the JOURNEY that counts. Not the Destination. I’m rooting for ya, Guy ! SOMEbody’s gotta clap for us, too. KEEP ON KEEPIN’ ON ! Love, Karen

    • I work for a company that works with Autistic kids, and some of the small accomplishments that I see and hear about are heartfelt…I will clap for You Karen, I love your spirit…And You Matt, well You are just Nationwide as ZZ-Top would say…

      • Karen says:

        Thanks, Chuck !
Yup. I NEED folks to “clap for me” too. Believe that we ALL do. I’ve noticed that most lil’ kids, say, will stop their “performing” of something wonderful (dancing, sports ?)…once they realize that no one’s watching them or appreciating them.
My own daughter grew up loving horses, later becoming Internationally known in expert Horsemanship…ya know, she brought home the “trophies” for British-style (‘n that of other country’s riding history styles too)…all about horse ‘n rider competition. Her ability to train her animals to follow her “commands” ‘n to win with horse showmanship (worldwide) put her in famous-‘n-exclusive-circles of the “rich” ‘n supposedly powerful arenas. She began to hate the politicking ‘n in-fighting. She then became a Credentialed Trainer ‘n Teacher. But…then came her fantastic ‘n special connection. Doing “Horse Therapy” with AUTISTIC KIDS ! She, too, now knows about that heartfelt purpose/spirit. I CLAP !

  13. Angelica says:

Hey dude! I stumbled upon this blog yesterday and I just wanted to say that you rock! Thanks for not letting other people stop you from living out your dreams, and for showing people that walking is one of the best things in life. And that everyone and everything has an interesting story to tell. Anyway stay safe and good luck getting to Oregon! Can’t wait to see all the great stuff you run into along the way!

Also I’m really happy that you’re from Queens, because I am too (from Floral Park) :)

  14. Carol says:

I saw your story last week on Yahoo’s home page – bookmarked ya and now a follower! In the question of Red Wing vs. Pilcher….It’s WINGS all the way baby (I’m in metro Detroit…where of course the Red Wings rule ;)

Here’s wishing you a continued safe and exciting journey!!

  15. tim says:

You are in the land of some of the greatest writers (Sinclair Lewis, Scott Fizgerald and let us not forget Charles Schultz without whom we would have no Snoopy).

  16. Chris says:

I just purchased a new pair of 914’s, & Love em. I also ordered a pair of #435’s as well. Can’t wait till they arrive. I’ve been wearing various Red Wing Boots for 16 years now…… There’s no better brand of boot…. HANDS DOWN. I purchase these boots for a discounted price in “Amish Country,” here in Ohio. There’s No “Over-head” (no electricity or phone) so, they keep prices low. If anyone is interested in “Low-Priced” Red Wing Boots, and is near Middlefield, OH…. Check out BYLER’S Harness Shop. I receive no compensation for the reccommendation….. “They’re Amish.” They just have good prices for Red Wing Boots.
