Funky pedestrian underpass

I'm walking across America.
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so. If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out. If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania. You can read all about the details of my trip if you're so inclined.

Looks like you are entering a 1960s bomb shelter!
My first thought when I seen this picture was an old Cold War bomb shelter.
Okay even though I’m from New York, I’d be afraid to walk through that thing! One might get mugged! lol ;))
How convenient that there is a handy law firm right across the street, and it specializes in personal injury.
it’s not as ugly as it might be if you tried to cross that street without the tunnel, granted a bit of paint and a well placed planter would definately make it purtier :)
Something tells me it needs a bunch of smelly trees.

Well … it doesn’t look like the most inviting place … but I’m sure it beats the heck out of trying to cross that street any other way! Keep on walking Matt! You’re awesome!
I’ve never noticed that before! I’ve gone by this area a numbers of time! I’ll have to look for it again when I am in Red Wing.
While living near Guadalajara, MX I used these to ride the train/cross the streets. Of course they looked a little more inviting than this one.
Just a bit of history. That is the head of a tunnel. It had an enclosure around the top a decade ago. It was sawed off, presumably so that everything in the tunnel would be visible from the outside. The stairwell can be seen all the way down from the platform. The rest of the tunnel can be seen from the other end (near the law office). There is a geocache down there, but I’m not going to tell you where.
