Day 83

Last night was not rainy

June 17th, 2010

But this morning sure was. These kind folks let me stay in their garage (and fed me pancakes for dinner!) to avoid the storm that swept through early this morning. By the time we finished breakfast the rain had stopped, so I set off down the road once again.

Another wonderful (and attractive) family to give you food, shelter, and company. Beautiful dog, and love the name.

By the way, saw that ND is in for some tough weather today. There is a tornado watch in your area, and more rains coming, so be careful out there.

  2. Jeff says:

Glad you had shelter and even gladder they fed you pancakes for dinner. Why – cause that is my kids favorite dinner and on a bad night…comfort food makes all things better. As Karen too .. says…be safe brother. You have a “few” more miles to journey. Peace and hoping for some awesome pictures.

  3. katzien says:

Aw, Manon is camera-shy….or he sees an interesting bug. ;-)

  4. Tesla says:

Yeah, I saw the forecast for quite a bit of rain around the area you’re walking. I hope you stay dry and find shelter if it gets too bad.

  5. janell@fgo says:

And don’t get blown away!!! The wind is (more) horrible (than usual) out there!

  6. Chaser1 says:

I live roughly a half a week to a weeks walk away from where you are at. We’ve had hail warnings and a tornado watch in effect for almost 24 hours. Our weather moves in your direction, so be careful. Stay close to ditches and the lid to your container could make a great shield against hail until you can find shelter. Some of the hail we got hit by was nearly golfball – baseball sized, which can be fatal if caught unexpected.

  7. Jackie says:

Happy too see people still out there for you and your journey. Please stay safe from Mother Nature she’s beautiful but can be dangerous.

  8. Bob B says:

Pancakes for dinner is the best on a rainy evening. Those are some very nice Americans. I do see the bug the dog is looking at, nice peech..walk on Matt, thanks..

  9. MN Roxanne says:

Thanks Buzz and Margie for taking care of Matt- love to hear he found shelter and could stay dry. Pancakes on top of it all- super!

  10. Meribel says:

**Is it just me, or does everyone on here kinda feel that we – followers of Matt – have developed a unique friendship? I dunno how to say it, (& I’m trying hard, lol) but Matt, your interesting walk has created a small community of good people. I have yet to find a negative comment (thankfully there’s none). Keep safe!

  11. Nancy says:

Thumbs up Meribel! I couldn’t find the “Like” key!

  12. Craig Anderson says:

Matt- After reading what Chaser 1 had to say about hail, I realized that baseball-sized hail would seriously damage fingers clutching onto a plastic storage container lid. I would take two small pieces of thin plywood and hinge them together. Attach cabinet handles so you can hold it like a little roof over you, to deflect big hailstones. You could easily bungee the device to the top of your storage container. I wouldn’t trust a plastic lid, having seen hail bust out windshields.

  13. John says:

I agree with Meribel, the “follow Matt community” seems to enjoy the simple things in life. I just love the way people have helped him along the way. Also Craig is on to something here.
My wife and I just love Matt’s stories and photos.

  14. Janine says:

    No.

There, the first negative comment, Meribel. *L*

I feel the same way. I love the people stories more than anything. I want to be like Mom and thank them all. I’m also enamored by the simplicity of the whole thing. When I grow up I wanna be Matt.

  15. Barb V says:

There was that political bashing thing that some had wanted to start several days back, but that was quickly nipped in the bud by the wonderful feel-good community of Matt followers. In a world filled with hate & anger, Matt’s photo blog has become a respite for the weary soul.

  16. charlie says:

yeah, and i hope we all dont suffer from ‘matt is just walking’ withdrawals when he makes it to OR!! i guess he will just have to walk back, but take a southern route!
