Love the historic photo link when Burke looked like most of its residents lived in tents. I’m surprised Matt hasn’t found a matching historic sign that says: “Will the last person leaving Burke please turn out the lights.” (grins)

  5. Lori says:

Interesting link on the history of silver mining in the area where Matt is now. He’ll be going through several of the towns mentioned here:

When looking at the photo link Matt gave I can’t imagine people actually trying to squish into such a tight spot in between the mountains. Looks like a pretty darn tight squeeze to me. Matt, where are the photo’s of the ridge you’re in there? Would have been nice to see the scenery looking up the mountain from the valley you’re in. Looks pretty deep in between those mountains from the photo link. >*<

  7. Janine says:

No wonder they got all grumpy and started shooting each other!

  8. Don in Tennessee says:

This gold is minin, no it is minin – OK I will track you down and ACHEW you up if you do not give me my pan o gold.

Bet there was never any backstabbing in these old days.

  9. Robert says:

Here’s an interesting article written about the town’s then oldest resident back in July of 2002. Wonder is she’s still alive.
