  1. Do winters in Portland get snowy, or are they rainy and cool? This place would look awesome covered in the white stuff.

Usually only snows a couple times a year. The last couple years have had lots of snow – but that’s been total flukes. But, you’re right, it does look awesome covered in white stuff! :-)

  2. I’m assuming these are street car tracks???…Minneapolis got rid of theirs many years ago…I loved them…and it was so fun to ride…they got hoodwinked into scraping them…would you believe it was a money thing…

Michael- “All the above”….I have been in the city and the snow flurries start coming down. And enough rain to think we were going to end up beachfront!

  4. deanna valenti meyer says:

I don’t think I’ve EVER seen a downtown Portland street empty like that! That’s crazy. :)

Jim…I believe these are “Max” tracks….Portland’s light rail system.

    • Deanna, I totally agree I really I don’t remember it being like this either…The irony is I now live in a town of 57k and our downtown doesn’t ever look this empty either lol

    • Kherri CLT via PDX says:

I think those are the trolly tracks rather than the Max tracks because the Max line has power lines above it. Old Town isn’t usually a busy area. Portland is actually pretty large and pedestrian busy. Matt just happened to be in one of the least busy areas when he took that picture.

    • Jeff says:

never seen new york city look this way..no matter the time or day.

  5. Dorinda from Mentor, Oh. says:

This place is so cool and nice looking but can’t imagine it being so empty! Where are all the people? This can’t be abandoned is it? To beautiful not to be occupied with life.

  6. Lisa in Goldsboro NC says:

I agree Dorinda, beautiful street lined with all those quaint shops and hanging flower baskets. I wish our old downtown area looked half that good.

    • Kherri CLT via PDX says:

Karen too, thank you for the link. I never knew (or even thought of) why one of Portland’s nick-names was “Stump Town”. Good read.

  7. Candice in Alabama says:

It certainly is a beautiful street! Even empty!

  8. MN Roxanne says:

Those old brick pavers are so cool to see along sidewalks and streets. This street is so charming…

  9. Gigi says:

Looks like a movie set ..

  10. katzien in austin says:

Reminds me of a model train set. ;-)
