Day 148

Top of The Nines

August 21st, 2010

Roger, Bailey, and I took a little stroll after dinner and checked out the view from the roof of The Nines, a downtown hotel. I believe all those people were gathered to watch an outdoor movie.

I’m in that picture! … Somewhere. We were down at Flicks on the Bricks watching Jaws and looking up at the people taking pictures of us from the roof.

    • Michelle says:

      Jaws!! THE summer movie.
      Peace from Michelle in Providence

    • Karen Too says:

Small world, Aeryn. Must be fun, albeit a little surreal, to see yourself on here.

This is one fancy place, but then, the name says it all:

Nothing’s funner than an outside movie in the summer and Jaws is a thriller… glad you shared Aeryn !

    • Dorinda from Mentor, Oh. says:

Oh my gosh! How cool is that?! Did you know who it was when he was taking the pic? How did you know to look here?

      • Aeryn says:

Nah, people are always taking pics of Flicks on the Bricks from up there. I’ve been following this blog for a little while now, so I was super-stoked to see this pic! :D

    • Candice in Alabama says:

All right Aeryn, which speck are you?!?!? :)

    • Norwood says:

I can’t believe that anyone would enjoy that. There are way too many people in my living room when I’m watching a movie, all talking and yackin about this or that, cell phones going off, kids a hollering, yada yada yada. I’m running away from home first chance I get.

  2. Amy in Snoqualmie says:

Love the Nordstrom sign glowing as a typical Pacific Northwest icon!!!
Thanks for sharing Matt, we are all on the edges of our seats during these last few and final steps you are taking!
    Be safe.

    • I don’t know why I remember this…many years ago (so it might not be so anymore, but) I heard someone speak about trusting those whom you train…this person said, Like Nordstrom does…they train their people well and if they come up against a problem and they don’t know what to do…and a supervisor is not around…then they are told, “Use your own best judgment.”…I’ve never forgotten that…and used it over and over in my business…people will make mistakes…but if you train them well…and if they still make mistakes…in this case, Nordstroms says that’s okay…we need to train better…”Use your own best judgment”…

I know too much…but it was too good to pass up…thanks Matt and Amy for reminding me…

    • Candice in Alabama says:

I used to shop Nordstrom, online, till they stopped carrying TALL sizes!

  3. Melanie in Rochester says:

Certainly a different kind of view from a different kind of a mountain…..but lovely nonetheless!

  4. Barb C. says:

That is so cool. Matt why do you keep “walkin” when you are off the trail???? Can’t you sit a spell??.

  5. Michelle says:

    Almost there Matt! Be safe!
    Peace, from Michelle in Providence

  6. Don in Tennessee says:

Top of the Nines. What were you, Roger or Bailey doing puttering around on the rood for? Did any one of you get a hole in one? Don’t get the idea that you and the Mattmobile can fly. Reminds me of –

  8. tom says:

Hey remember the unemployment rate is 10.6 (in reality MUCH higher) in oregone so don’t get tempted to stay there! See you at the end of the line in rotaway beach

  9. Laura says:

I’m in this picture too! I’ve been keeping an eye out for you all week and my goodness, to know you were so close..!

I was a killer flicks on the bricks, literally. Wish you could have joined us, we would have loved to say hello!

  10. Pioneer Square at Christmas is beautiful with a HUGE tree and musical events.

    • Don in Tennessee says:

      Karin

If it is anything like Rockafeller Center at Christmas time it is beautiful with the huge tree and ice skaters. Also, in New York at Christmas the window dispalys at department stores are amazing to see. I am sure it is beautiful in Oregon and other parts of the NW during the Holidays.

Christmas is 4 months from this Wed.

I think this will also be the day Matt makes it to Rockaway Beach, OR. If so I missed my guess by a day!

  11. Candice in Alabama says:

This is so making me want to visit Portland!

  12. Tna says:

I would reckon that only a person who likes to walk would venture walking over 3,000 miles and that walking over 3,000 miles would not make them like walking less..

  13. katzien in austin says:

Neato! We do outdoor movies in my neighborhood each quarter. It’s fun to pack a picnic or some wine, bring the dog and a blanket and just hang out and watch an old movie like ET or The Goonies. Next month is Monster Inc. Kids just love it! If you’re not a people-person (ahem…Norwood), then this wouldn’t be fun for you.

  14. jared Goodman says:

how did you get up there????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
