These bags and barrels are full of bottles and cans that were shredded and crushed by the machines in the upper right. The people using those machines are redeeming their collected containers for five cents apiece. (Five cents is the deposit paid on each container at the time of purchase, per New York State law.)

Definitely something we don’t have here in Ohio. Or at least anywhere I’ve been in Ohio. I saw some machines like this in a store up in Buffalo area of NY I believe and wondered what people were doing. Not being from the area when I saw something like that I had no idea.
So now who comes and gets all the shredded cans?
