An endangered gatepost beast

There were once thousands of baby elephants gracing the fence lines of the outer boroughs, but over the years almost all of them have been eaten, and then replaced, by lions.

    Explain! Endangered species in every sense of the word, I hope. But what were these? where did they come from? are they home decorations?

      Yes, they’re decorations. There are lots of houses with animal sculptures on the gateposts. Lions are the most common, but you see others from time to time.
