March 4th, 2013

is just a bit behind where I'm standing on Hillside Avenue; this is the only sign marking the border.

Man, you’re making me so homesick, I was just in that Walgreens 3 weeks ago…but anyway this is actually not the easternmost point of Queens. The easternmost point is about a mile north at Union Turnpike and 271st Street :)

    • Matt Green says:

I’ve heard that before about 271st. If you look at a map, however, you can see that this point is definitely farther east. People probably make that assumption because 271 is the highest street number.

  2. JB says:

Union Tpke and Langdale St is the eastern most point in Queens and in the city itself. Consult a map and you’ll see. This is a non debatable fact.

    • Matt Green says:

I certainly have consulted a map. Langdale Street is angled slightly to the east as it runs south, meaning that Langdale and Hillside is a few hundred feet farther east than Langdale and Union. The city boundary, by the way, does not run along Langdale, but parallels it about 100 feet east.

    • Zach says:

Actually Union Turpike & Hillside Avenue is situated slightly further east

Take a look at NYC boundary map https://beta.nyc/products/boundaries-map/ The easternmost point of NYC is at Hillside Ave and Cherry Ln. Notice that boundary line angles slightly to west north of there. That’s why there’s confusion regarding Union Turnpike. Nuff said.
