The plaque on this memorial at the edge of Van Cortlandt Park reads:

AUGUST 31, 1778.
UPON THIS FIELD,
CHIEF NIMHAM
AND SEVENTEEN STOCKBRIDGE INDIANS
AS ALLIES OF THE PATRIOTS,
GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR LIBERTY.
