I said "Commonwealth", dammit!

Who can name the other three states that call themselves commonwealths? No cheating!

    What was the seal on? And are those MUSHROOMS at the bottom of the shield?

      This was on a war memorial at the Jefferson County Court House. The things on the bottom are supposed to be sheaves of wheat, but they certainly do look more like mushrooms.

    Heres what I know since i work for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    work Horse standing on back legs are actually hold the shield up
    Eagle represents the US
    Olive Branch symbol of peace
    Corn Stalk PA most important crops
    wheat plentiful harvest and represents Sussex County DE Delaware was actually a part of PA until it declared independence 1776
    I now have brain freeze

    Massachusetts, Virginia and Kentucky…..I am from Boston, Ma., and like you lived in Richmond area…Kentucky cuz teachers in Boston made us learn this!
