Day 141

Mt. Hood!

August 14th, 2010

It made its first appearance today. I've seen Mt. Rainier a couple of times now as well, but from too far away to photograph.

Lewis and Clark saw Mt. Hood in the distance too!

Also, I’ve been wondering for weeks how your path compares to theirs. Yesterday I found a very cool map site. The yellow line shows their trail, the green dots are their campsites. Modern-day cities are overlaid. (Note Rockaway Beach over on the coast.)

Oops, I clicked and discovered the map site defaults to a national map. Click buttons to show campsites and regional cities. Scroll with the little hand.

  2. Christopher says:

Great view! Climbing Rainier should be your next adventure but run it by Mom and Dad first. ;-)

  3. Candice in Alabama says:

Wow – beautiful – I see Mt. Hood in the distance!

  4. First again…amazing…but I have too much to type, so probably not first…

I remember flying at night, it was cloudy, out of Portland…got above the clouds, the moon was full…and Mt. Hood stood out beautifully…also Mt. Rainier on the way to Seattle…it is an amazing sight…I think I have pictures somewhere…but it is indelible in my mind…

  5. Ruthie in CA says:

Seeing Mt. Hood in your beautiful photo reminds me of the time we waited to see Mt Mckinnley (sp) in Alaska the wait is worth it…

Might be pilot error my end, but as I was scrolling through this set of photos, I ended up viewing a 10 sec clip from Midnight Cowboy – the “I’m walking here!” bit. I had to reload this site to continue on.
If it was a hack, then ha ha.
If it was a plant, then ha ha
If it was a hallucination .,. GOOD ONE!

    • Candice in Alabama says:

Not a Hack – just a placeholder – when Matt is uploading or something else is happening on the blog (the vid is from “Midnight Cowboy”, Dustin Hoffman and Joh Voigt.

      • Christopher says:

Awesome that they picked Midnight Cowboy for a placeholder…

Ratso Rizzo: I’m walking here! I’m walking here!
Ratso Rizzo: Frankly, you’re beginning to smell and for a stud in New York, that’s a handicap.

        teehee!

  7. charlie says:

spent some time in washington. never got to see mt rainier, too overcast, the weather. then, flying out of Sea-Tac, we flew OVER the mountain and the captain announced it!

  8. Dorinda from Mentor, Oh. says:

Mt. Hood!!! Yeah! I was waiting for this. Wow. You can see it from so far away! And the rest of this shot is so different to me. And the animals, like Candice mentioned, did they notice you? Did they come over to greet you?

  9. katzien in austin says:

What a stunning view! I feel like crossing the pasture to the lake………
