August 24th, 2010

  1. John in MI says:

    I like this one better!

  2. Gigi says:

    A holding cell?

  3. Norval from Wisconsin says:

It looks like it keeps debris away from a culvert???? Beaver guard for a culvert???

  4. Frank says:

Hi Matt… I must say I have enjoyed your journey from the start. I am sure you are glad to see the Pacific Ocean but I am sure there are many of us who will greatly miss seeing the country through your eyes. I just turned 60 in June and I have a mortgage, kids in college and all the other responsibilities that come with the territory but I fully admit envying you and walking with you and your wonderful sense of adventure vicariously these past many months. Oh…there were many days I would have traded anything for your unencumbered freedom and individual sense of spirit and curiosity. Rock on my adventurous friend…enjoy your life!

  5. Christopher says:

And the winner is Cheesehead, uh i mean genius head, Norval. Them pesky Oregon beaver engineers eh?

    • Norval from Wisconsin says:

Yahoo!!!!!!!! Hey Chris…Wait till the 18th of September. I’ll meet you in Portland for all the drinks you can consume! And, I’ll buy!!!!!!!!!! Minneapolis to Seattle to Portland to Albany in one fell swoop. How about it! Norv in Lacrosse, Wisc.

  6. katzien in austin says:

My guess is a repeat…..”oh, it’s another one of those.” heehee

  7. Jeff says:

Toy Slayer….trap. but the beaver thing is probably right. Not alot of beavers around here..but there is one living in The bronx river, NYC by the zoo. Really!!

  8. John K says:

This is a cage to capture debris from entering the storm drain. It’s fairly common in locations where there are a lot of branches, rocks, etc. that will be washed down during rainstorms and high flows. You can see from the picture where branches, etc. are against the face. Periodically, someone will come by to remove the debris.

    John Kwong, P.E.
