More warm hospitality! They set me up in their guest room to keep me dry on another rainy night. The culinary highlight of my visit was a strawberry shortcake-like creation with biscuits instead of shortcake, something Lu grew up eating. The strawberries were straight from the garden: I picked the right time of year to be in Minnesota!
Guest Room – A warm bed and a cover over your head. Your Mom will be happy. Nice couple of the day award again. PS..my kids love the biscuit version of strawberry shortcake too.
That’s my favorite way to eat strawberry shortcake. Gotta have biscuits. Minnesota sounds quite hospitable.
I sure hope you had real whipped cream. None of that ‘shhhhhhhhh’ stuff from a can. ;-)
Just read that Minnesota’s early warm weather caused the strawberries to be ready early! You got lucky, because they are the best!
its so cool that you get to meet so many people along the way.
Does anyone else see a family resemblance between Denny and Duane?
Lu and Denny look like wonderful, generous people. Love their smiles.
I’ve enjoyed the biscuit version, too. Pound cake is also a good alternative to shortcake.
Yes, you did pick the perfect time to be in Minnesota.
I thought the same thing! I was like “wow, he looks just like that other guy from the other day”. I’m glad someone else sees the resemblance besides me.
I thought the EXACT same thing! And I also think Lu and Denny look a lot alike. What nice people….you are very lucky.
I concur with this analysis.
Yes! When I looked at this picture I thought to myself “Where have I seen him before?”. Too funny.
I’m lovin Minnesota :)
Happy Trails!
Fergus Falls!! One of my favorite small towns in the area. Do you have a place to stay lined up in Fargo, ND yet?
Biscuit type shortcakes are the best, not those spongy cakes.
I love how a lot of the photos you take of families are in the kitchen. It’s like the centerpiece of a house, the gathering place for everyone. So nice. Lu looks so young also… Maybe I need to move to Minnesota and eat strawberries more often :)
The kitchen are the hot spot here in Minnesota. Pretty much were most of our family gather when we get together.
Here in Kirtland, Ohio we are getting ready for the annual Kiwanas Strawberry Festival. They serve the shortcake desserts with the biscuits, along with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. They are the best!
I notice that the couple are each wearing a jacket in JUNE!!!!! We never see that in south Georgia during ANY of the summer!
Yeah, we’ve been getting rain, and it’s on the cool side up north.
We would never see that in Alabama either. I’m always trying to wear as little clothing as possible and still be decently covered, in the SUMMER and usually in the WINTER too! I may have to move to Minnesota!
I find it the most amazing thing about following this blog and your journey is how random people take in a complete stranger to their house. I don’t think I would have the guts to either take someone into my house for the night, or to be the one staying with people. I’m a pretty cynical guy living in LA, where this would never happen. But this has actually restored my faith in humanity just a bit knowing that there are actually good people still out there.
I find this one of the amazing (heartwarming) things about reading Matt’s blog. :)
