That would be one 80…and matt….you are walking without even leaving a trace. We will send you some sunshine…
I say go with the sail but then that would not be “technically walking would it”. Peace and hope you find dry shelter.
Thanks for yet another view of your trip shared with us here.
It may be flat now, but as others have pointed out, that will soon change. I’d enjoy it while it lasts. It’s all beautiful as far as I’m concerned.
If anyone else (see last post) is having trouble viewing the pictures at work, go to flickr.com, and look for “Hobo Matt.” Perhaps the photos/videos will not be blocked on there.
I could be wrong, as I haven’t checked, but I don’t think the comments you leave on flickr.com are visible here.
As I am sitting her in my office in front of my computer, surrounded by work, I am SO wishing I was standing where you are. What a great and inspiring adventure. Thank you for sharing!
Yep… looks like eastern North Dakota. I spent a lot of time around here visiting my grandparents farm as a kid. The land is so flat that you can see for miles. I love the peaceful desolation of the Dakotas.
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
You can read all about the details of my trip
if you're so inclined.
Wow. “Flat” doesn’t even begin to describe that scene. You may just finally go insane in this 300-mile stretch …
It is only that flat in the east. Rolling plains will start up soon.
All that smoke or steam seems to block the sun. ;(
I think it was just cloudy. Those trains aren’t steam trains anymore.
It is a cloudy, rainy day.
Yeah, that train is about the most interesting thing you’ll see in North Dakota.
Flat? Yes. But just watching these videos beats my cubicle office view. Thanks for taking us along for the walk, Matt.
I couldn’t agree more! Thanks Matt!
HAha ditto to this! What an interesting experience that must be….surrounded by straight road, wind, and well…. a train. And grass.
By the sound of the wind, if you could fashion some sort of sail to your cart, you’ll be done with that stretch in no time.
DITTO! Thank you for taking us all along with you!!
very artistic spot to do a 360……..or was that a 180? very peaceful actually….no traffic!

That was rush hour…..kidding : )

darn still blocked on flicker…..just a hick up.
Wow… without those ‘whatever’ thingys in the distance, it resembles the images of western emptiness I held in my when I was a child…
Growing up in Indiana — it brought a tear to my eye ;)
And speaking of 180 — you weren’t trying to hid the huge mega mall on the other side of the street, were ya, huh?
Love your journey and eye for shots!
LOL….right mini mall…i saw it in the reflection of the freight train…but did not want to spoil the surprise.
Matt the Hobo would have hopped that train. Any buffalo yet????
that was my thought…. Matt the Hobo should hop on the train… and get out of the rain!
Holy Cow thats flat! … wait til you hit the Rockies :D

So…which way was that wind blowing?
How Fargo? Moorhead.
Very funny, Jeremy.
Wow all the train cars are so bright compared to everything else….

There is something in the beauty of ND that is so peaceful, the experience of standing there and being able to see for miles is indescribable.
Just a little info, the plant in the video is Tharaldson Ethanol. http://tharaldsonethanol.com/
That was the most train I’ve ever seen at one time!
GOING UP NOW!!!!!
