A beautiful spot
June 29th, 2010
I'm walking across America.
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so. If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out. If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania. You can read all about the details of my trip if you're so inclined.

Yeah, a big skip and a large jump and I’m there! I’m up on Lake Erie which is beautiful, even in the winter.

All of your beautiful pics make me want to paint the scenery around you… Maybe by the time you get to California I’ll have a stack of paintings for you! I can’t imagine the enlightenment you have found on the road… that kind of freedom is what dreams are made of. =) Happy hoofing!

This shot with the Interstate in the background?? reminds me of Blue Highways: A Journey into America by William Least Heat-Moon. He travelled the side roads, only he did it with a beat-up old van instead of walking. Like Matt, he took the time to stop along the way and meet many interesting folks.
Matt… when the days get long and your feet are sore…remember that you are not just walking for yourself. You are walking for all of us. You are on an epic journey much like Odyseeus. You inspire. Keep truckin’ brother, keep truckin. No this comment was not about the scenery….that is nice too.

Beautiful I wish I were with you. I have always wanted to see this country. I’ve never been out west. It is nice to feel like we’re all along with you for this journey that you are on, Matt. Thank you so much for the beautiful photos and letting us know there are some wonderful, kind-hearted people in this country.

I love you’ve inspired more than one person to post poetry in response to your photos. I’m sorry ,I can’t really follow suit – I can really only quote the last few lines of a Road Less Traveled, which might be more than appropriate, actually… but still… I enjoy the posts from others!
