  3. Ashley says:

What’s that weird stuff at the base of the totally ineffective drain?

  4. Jeff says:

Fresh from Dr. Seusses newest book, it the thinga-ma-silo-su. Or a watchmacalic thingamajic.

  5. Lori says:

The stuff at the base looks like ” Great Stuff” a spray in insulation, comes in a can with a tube attachment.

  6. Amanda Brown says:

It feels like it’s a starting point for a contest: design the Rube Goldbergian contraption that’s on the other side of that wall!

  7. Andrew in VT says:

Those are the intakes and exhausts from direct-vented (or power-vented) gas appliances. They appear to be right over a door and window, not allowed in most locations due to carbon monoxide concerns. Maybe it’s not a problem in ND because of the wind. :)

There must be some more aesthetic fittings available. This is one ugly installation!

  8. Tonia says:

Now that’s what you call outdoor plumbing!!

  9. Jay says:

Andrew is right. It’s exhaust for gas furnace, a common thing for homes up north with colder winter. These furnace runs 90% effecent.

  10. Craig (From NC) says:

    what an eyesore.

    • Jay says:

It can be an eye sore, but on homes you don’t really see it since it’s near the ground, just this place it’s high up. Trane use this style, and this is what I have.

Years ago I found some old photo albums in a thrift store. Obviously mom and dad died and the kids just junked everything in the house. I bought them … they were full of great pictures of their once-in-a-lifetime trip throughout South America and the Carribean. They even went to Machu Picchu and through the Panama Canal! Anyway, to bring this silly story into perspective, some place in Ecuador, Chile or Brazil, the people obviously passed by some hardware store where they had mounted dozens of various plumbing fittings on a board that was standing on the sidewalk outside the store … when I first saw this photo of Matt’s, it immediately reminded me of this other one.
This guy, like Matt, took interesting pictures of “just stuff” he saw on his trip; that’s why I bought it after flipping through it in the store, it was fascinating and he was a fair photographer too. I should dig those out and do something with them …

  13. Stephen says:

Looks like someone gave up on a silly pipe dream.

  14. Rick Clovis Ca. says:

    Nice shower heads….hahaha
