That has got to be one of the prettiest, most imaginative, beautiful works of artistry in a quilt I’ve seen. And I’d know, my mom has quilted since my first baby quilt and ever since. Thankfully, olive green is passe now. LOL She does alot of elaborate work too.
I’ll be forwarding this to her – I know she’ll adore it too. EXCELLENT WORK PRISCILLA !!!
It’s sad that you don’t have room to collect more keep sakes from your journey. I understand that you will forever have the memories, but I like keep sakes because they jog your memories from time to time, and they are great conversational pieces…
I didn’t even know that was possible!! Just used to seeing square patchwork quilts. You’ve got yourself one expensive gift! Does she have a website? Or do you have a contact number for her? I’d love to place an order! :)
Oh, I’m so happy you put a picture of her quilt up! I love the way she made all the layers of the river. It’s got the sandy bottom and cobblestones, and her choice of fabric even shows various currents! I love, love, love this quilt, and how appropriate for your journey!
It’s called watercolor quilting. Pieces of fabric are used to create the illusion of a painting. My husband and I bought one near Shipshewana, land of the Amish, several years ago that hangs in our living room.
BTW – If you were to purchase this beautiful work of art, you would probably pay a few hundred dollars for it. This is an amazing gift, Matt, and one I’m sure you’ll cherish always as a reminder of your journey.
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
You can read all about the details of my trip
if you're so inclined.

This woman knows quilts. She told me the story of your journey. All I can say is there are no coincidences–only grace. Good luck on your quest.
