Day 85

Back in action on Tuesday!

June 19th, 2010

My inflatable sleeping pad has sprung a few leaks that I've been unable to successfully patch, so my parents mailed a new one (or, rather, my dad's not-used-much one) to the post office in Jamestown, where I'll be resting my feet for a few days.

Gwt some good rest, Matt. I can see that you had a few rough days there. Look forward to rejoining your journey on Tuesday!

  2. Yes, rest up and get some good directions from the locals there. Make sure you can get some good advice and guidance from them as to what roads to take rather than Google or GPS. We all saw where that got ya and didn’t look fun. Walk on Matt! (on Tuesday that is).

ps. Maybe the Toy Slayer got to the Google map guys is why the roads ended. Those fields and such looked like the perfect place to “hide the bodies”.

    • Jeff says:

That darn Toy Slayer!! a few pokes and the mattress is dead. Good thing he could not reach Matt in his sleep.

Matt, Peace on this weekend. To bad your dad did not bring it in person, you could give him a hug for fathers Day!!
Take it easy and relax those feet. Dryer swamps lie ahead, we all hope. Happy Sabbath and may the one from above give you rest and comfort. See you(r) pictures on Tuesday.

  3. Angela says:

you are getting so close to the half way point! I think this is a great time for a rest! It is awesome how your folks support you the way they do, it must be nice to have a “home base” to stay in contact with while you are out on your journey…happy travling to you! May the son shine on you and the wind alway be at your back! God Bless You!!!

  4. katzien says:

You found something that duct tape couldn’t do? Let us know how you spent your down-time. We’ll miss you!

  5. Donna in MI says:

Slacking off on the job, are ya! Probably living the high-life in a hotel room with room service. Some hobo! Make sure to get a foot massage while you’re there. From seeing the pictures you posted, I’d say it’s well deserved. Too bad that road was flooded and you were detoured through the marshes. That’s backbreaking work pushing your cart through all that muck! What are we going to do without any pictures for the next couple of days? Well, don’t forget to post some pictures of your downtime. I hope you’ve seen the last of the storms for a while.

    • Donna in MI says:

I forgot to say….when you’re done with that foot massage, don’t forget to get a back massage, too! After pushing your cart through all of those “green acres” god knows you can use it. It’s time for R&R! Enjoy your time off.

    • Candice In Alabama says:

I for one have been catching up on Matt’s blog – plus I lost my DSL on Saturday due to severe weather. I sure am glad Matt is taking a much deserved break. :)

  6. Karen Too says:

What will we do with our time until Tuesday?!

Have a great rest, and catch up on some good sleep, eating, etc. After a long soak of your feet, find a comfy chair, put your feet up, and relax.

As an aside, I’d been wondering where you’ve been sleeping of late. There have been fewer and fewer postings of the fine people who have given you shelter. With all of the crazy weather in your area, too, it must have made for some harsh nights when you had to sleep outdoors.

Wise, in any case, to take a break from walkin’.

    • brian says:

I thought the same thing! What are we going to read untip Tuesday? This journey is addictive to follow.

      • Jeff says:

how about the Steinbeck book Matt rites about in his long version of his walk. Good read I suspect and will keep us on track.

      • Julie says:

I agree….what are we to do with our “down time” hehe VERY addictive to follow and have many people I have told about it say “THANKS I am hooked” lol

  7. Barb C. says:

Matt, you deserve some much needed rest. With all the storms coming across N.Dakota this is a good time for it. I agree with Karen Too==what will the rest of us poor pathetic people do the next few days!!!! Maybe we can “get a life”!!!! ha ha
Maybe you can take a few pictures of Jamestown==it’s been quite a few yrs since I’ve been there. Be safe.

  8. Barb C. says:

If you talk to your Dad tomorrow (Father’s Day) tell him Happy Father’s Dad from all of your web site fans.
He helped raise a great kid which is a tribute to him and your Mom and probably Grandma too.

  9. Anna One says:

Enjoy your R&R, Matt. I’m not your mom but I also worry about those dang tornadoes and you in the middle of nowhere. I’ve been wondering where you’ve been sleeping too and miss pix of your kind hosts. See you next Tuesday! Be safe…

  10. Chris Lazz says:

    Enjoy your break!!
Very curious to know what sort of camera you are using? Is it on your phone? The quality is FABULOUS. What kind of phone/camera is it?? I’m starting to look for a new phone, and I’d like to find one that can take photographs of this quality. Looks like you’re getting good Internet service with it, too??
Happy trails, man, you have a whole lot of people out here who are finding a lot of inspiration in your journey.

    • Jeff says:

droid. You can get the links to all (most of) his things. even his air mattress on the page of this website that opens up and it says read about my trip. also on the flicker cross over it has the droid info too.

      • Candice In Alabama says:

That’s the next thing I read – after I get through all of June 19th’s comments – :)

  11. Doris says:

Hey Chris, if you click on any picture and it will take you to Flickr, there it will tell you what kind of camera Matt is using.

Wow Matt, you had a really good air mattress too bad it wore out already, but you have went along way with it. Have a fun and relaxing time on your days off.

  12. Leigh says:

Enjoy the break!! Glad you are getting a new mat

  13. Chris Lazz says:

    Doris, thanks for the info!
Wow, I had no idea so much information was available with digital photographs … good to know!

  16. Claude Rains says:

My inflatable sleeping bag sprung a leak, quotha? I’m flabbergasted! What, did a feather from the stuffing pierce through the quilt? That’s what you get for using a fountain pen in bed, see? In my days we would make do with a sheet of tarpaulin, thank you very much.
That sure has to be the lamest excuse since, the witches took-off with out house!

  17. John in MI says:

You’ve certainly earned the break (not to mention the respect of everyone posting here). Enjoy the R&R, and we’ll see you Tuesday!

  18. Lynn says:

    Peace

  20. Julie says:

Hopefully the “toy slayer” will leave your new mat alone (we need to start a revolution against them) Anyways, enjoy your MUCH deserved and needed rest time. I hope you find some local yokels to enjoy some of your time with!!!! Be well and enjoy~~~~~

    • Julie says:

ps….I wish hubby and I were some locals from that area….would be enjoyable spending time hearing about your adventure so far 8)

  21. Mike says:

Hope you have a relaxing weekend!!

  22. Nancy says:

Is it Tuesday yet? Enjoy the R&R Matt!

  23. Joan says:

Enjoy your time off. You may want to try and find the Chamber of Commerce office or some kind of North Dakota tourist place. They should have a freebie state highway map… much better than google or mapquest. Best do that for Montana, too.

  24. Lesa says:

Get a picture with the World’s Largest Buffalo!!
