New Salem, ND

June 28th, 2010

I like that this unique sign is mounted on standard traffic sign posts.

Yes, nice mix of media, and great shot.

From this sign to Rockaway Beach, Oregon…….1362 miles…..
Keep one foot in front and don’t look back. Every day is 23 miles or so less. Walk on my Brother. We ALL got your back.

I’ll say it is a great shot. This sign is tiny … zooming by in a car you’d almost miss it:
    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=new+salem+nd&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=29.496064,55.107422&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=New+Salem,+Morton,+North+Dakota&ll=46.847491,-101.426092&spn=0.003133,0.010793&z=17&layer=c&cbll=46.84749,-101.425963&panoid=11KzpUwb9eO8flG-KvZ7vw&cbp=12,230.77,,0,10.93

If you proceed down the street view to the west there is another iron gate “GRACELAND” … pretty cool too.

Thanks Thomas – I was trying to read that sign via your Google link – and I just couldn’t make it out. I thought I might try to see Salem Sue via Google as well. When I get time.

    • Yes I saw that and am surprised Matt didn’t post it but this piece is better. Nice sign. Love the old steam engine.

  4. Thomas says:

Projected a little, roughly 100 miles left of ND.

  5. mindy says:

I just am loving this trip.

  6. Candice In Alabama says:

What a great cutout sign. Love the train.

  7. So, if this is the New Salem..what happened to the old one? …Perhaps turned into stone animal statues by witches? Went up in a puff of smoke?

  8. Jeff says:

How about Salem of old is out here on the east coast….and western settlers brought the name with them creating New Salem…..just a guess…..swear to diety of choice.

  9. Jim in AR via MN says:

Maybe this being the “new” compared to the “old” Salem not in MA but in…Genesis 14:18…Salem is another name for Jerusalem…that would be the “real old” Salem!!!…with all the other Biblical names of towns and cities in North Dakota…it may make sense…probably where all the other “Salem”s came from too…
