Day 94

Eleno (and some lumps)

June 29th, 2010

He tracked me down late this afternoon to offer some cold beverages, and rode along beside me on his bike for a while. He also got us some beer and pizza at the end of the day!

  1. Are those Indian burial mounds?

How nice of Eleno to come out and take care of you like that. Pizza and beer at days end? Some roughing it.

  2. MN Roxanne says:

Thanks Eleno for keeping Matt company and offering refreshments – what a bonus!!

  3. Karen Too says:

The simple pleasures of life are the best.

  4. jojo says:

    Everyone needs friends like Eleno!!!

  5. Jeff says:

before reading posts – i read matt’s blurb… Beverage…In my house beverage is usualy on thing…and as I continued to read….beverage and pizza in the outback west of sorts….how freaking awesome is that.

Once again Matt’s nickname should be “Magnet”. He attracts good people.
A little light humor…(stll North Dakota) and he did not have a wood chipper.

God Blessings to Eleno for thinking of his brohter man. Just a simple few rules. Do unto others.

    • Michael in Atlanta says:

Ya, Jeff. I’ve been thinkin’ of the wood chipper. If Steve Buscemi shows up, Matt, run like you’ve never run! Abandon the cart. Take off the hat so you don’t look silly running, but RUN!

And thanks, Eleno. Anybody who delivers beer and pizza has to be good people.

  6. Candice in Alabama says:

Matt, I’m glad you are not a Maple leaf! :) Free Joe? Free coffee?? Thanks Eleno for being so friendly to Matt! Right on Jeff, Do unto others!

  7. Kelli says:

How cool. I love comming to your web site everyday to see where you are at, and all of your awsome pics. Be safe out there. May god bless you on your journey.

  8. Lisa says:

is that a beer in his beverage holder on the bike? I love the people you run into.

  9. Pizza and beer that sounds great, Eleno……get back to work. Ok just jealous that you get to hang with a cool traveler. Thanks for coming through ND Matt… of the few.

  10. katzien in austin says:

I wonder of Eleno takes those hills in “bmx” fashion?? Two cool guys + five wheels = one awesome day!!

  11. JeffE says:

I want to know more about the t-shirt. Was Joe hiking and accidentally crossed over into Canada? Do the Mounties have him?

    • Jennifer says:

I agree with JeffE, what’s with the t-shirt? Who is Joe and what does he need to be free from? The red maple leaf leads us to believe it is Canada but seriously…… free from Canada? Eleno is a very interesting guy. Unusual name, travels by bike with a beer and ominous t-shirt. Love it!

  12. Linda says:

That was nice of Eleno to feed you. You are meeting some incredible people on your journey. I hope that many more will help you and that you are safe

  13. ELee says:

Now this is how I think a long hard day should be spent.
Thanks to the kid for supply the basic nutrients to

Free Cold Beer….my favorite four letter word…..

  14. Sarah says:

  15. Dan in LA says:

I’ve been following your progress for nearly a month. Each time some random American extends such kindness, I find it so inspiring and humbling.

  16. Shannon says:

Eleno is pretty hot, is he single? :)

  17. Jennie says:

Ehm, what’s with the no Maple Leaf shirt eh? Am I the only Canadian following Matt who is wondering? :-) We are so polite … come on!

  18. ND TA says:

Found out the meaning behind his shirt… This a a friend of mine’s husband. Here is the story:

There was a guy named Joe from his hometown who went on a fishing trip in Canada. While he was there he gave a lady a ride who was hitch hiking and the police detained him. He was stuck up there for quite a long time. He is the editor of their little hometown paper. So the community did a bunch of things to try to get him home. A misunderstanding, but it lasted a long time.

  19. Janine says:

Thank you for feeding and watering Matt, Eleno!

  20. mindy says:

    i love him
