Love the historic photo link when Burke looked like most of its residents lived in tents. I’m surprised Matt hasn’t found a matching historic sign that says: “Will the last person leaving Burke please turn out the lights.” (grins)
When looking at the photo link Matt gave I can’t imagine people actually trying to squish into such a tight spot in between the mountains. Looks like a pretty darn tight squeeze to me. Matt, where are the photo’s of the ridge you’re in there? Would have been nice to see the scenery looking up the mountain from the valley you’re in. Looks pretty deep in between those mountains from the photo link. >*<
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
You can read all about the details of my trip
if you're so inclined.
Is the building still there?? We would love to see it if it’s still standing
Nope, it’s long gone. :o(
That’s nuts!! But the picture on the link Matt posted is WAY COOL!!
That is very interesting. 2 railroads,a street and a stream running through the building.!!!!!!
With the 2 railroads, I bet they didn’t need to make any wake up calls.
That IS a great photo of old Burke! Thanks for the link!

Interesting link on the history of silver mining in the area where Matt is now. He’ll be going through several of the towns mentioned here:

No wonder they got all grumpy and started shooting each other!
LOL, Janine.
This gold is minin, no it is minin – OK I will track you down and ACHEW you up if you do not give me my pan o gold.
Bet there was never any backstabbing in these old days.
Here’s an interesting article written about the town’s then oldest resident back in July of 2002. Wonder is she’s still alive.
