Ha….We have several “TOLL” roads/bridges in the NY metro area that, under the same guise, was to be paid off by the tolls then the tolls removed. To this day, the tolls persist because of perpetual debt the toll authorities keep creating……and the cost of the tolls keep going up!
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
You can read all about the details of my trip
if you're so inclined.
Nice piece of history there. And it’s fitting too for your journey. Thanks for this little bit of history today.
I just love bridge plaques, and what I find most interesting is how old so many of them are (the bridges I mean.)
But not this one, of course (dang, I gotta start reading the whole plaque before commenting)

I like bridges (old or new). This is a nice, informative plaque.
Love these kinds of bridges, and others, and always enjoy reading about their history.
