Matt took the road less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. Thanks for bringing us all along with you, savor each one of those last steps.
That rail line use to service the timbe industryr, but then it slowly declined and then an tourist excursion train went between Manzanita? and Tillamook. I think I have the towns right. Now that is no longer the case apparently. My husband just came to have a look, and said it looks like the area where we have some property. I have walked along those tracks myself.
Thats pretty much correct, the timber indust. did use it for awhile but we had a big storm wipe out a trestle north of Nehalem . The “Powers to be” decided that they wouldn’t fix the trestle. The “Fun Run” runs from Garibaldi to Rockaway Beach. Trains do not travel south of Garibaldi anymore. I did see a group of worker out work on cutting back the brush a few weeks ago, not sure what they were up to :P
Matt Slow down a bit, I get off of work at 2…..I was hoping to beat you to Rockaway so I can say Hi as you pass thru LOL
Congrats on making it this far!
Alright! I believe it is fitting that we get some shots of some railroad track for our hobo(at least the appearance of walking the track)…
I certainly don’t expect you to walk the rails. I have tried walking on train tracks and it is a tough walk. Not to mention pushing the cart and watching out for trains!
Hmm..is that why you can take such close up shots then? The tracks are not used much any more or not at all. Don’t know why they would have replaced them like that and then not get much use out of them.
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
You can read all about the details of my trip
if you're so inclined.

Hmmm, I’d prefer the road nearest the beach myself. ;-)
I would rather be on the beach myself, but pushing the cart would not be fun on the sand.
Great shot.
Slowww dowwwwwn, Matt! Enjoy every last step !

The red caboose is waiting for you Matt. Nearly there..
Neat shot. Is that coastal fog in the background, or am I just excited?

Access rail to some business that gets infrequent deliveries?
“That’s what she said”!
