Day 1

The alpha and the omega

December 31st, 2011

4300 Amboy Road in Staten Island. Randomly selected starting point! Thanks to two friends with a car, I didn't know where I was until I took the blindfold off. This will also be the ending point of my walk in two years or however long it takes me. And as a bonus, "New Dorp" is one of my favorite place names in all of NYC (although this address is not actually in New Dorp).

Hilarious choice for your first, and last, point in your new walk. I am also a fan of the name New Dorp.

While not in NYC, another favorite is Perth Amboy. I always thought it would make a fun alias, or simply a person’s name in general.

Lucky for you that you are not actually in New Dorp, as it’s quite far out, though I’m sure you’ll get there at some point, since it’s part of your trek.

Love the idea of using a blindfold for this part. Very creative, clever, and entertaining.

As always, looking forward to all the new posts, and pictures on here.

    Let your new adventure begin!

P.S. I just clicked on the map, and see that you are actually in/on Staten Island today. When you said not in New Dorp, I thought that’s want you meant (that by default you were not in Staten Island).

You’re pretty close to Perth Amboy, too. :-D

In my many years in NYC, I did not get to Staten Island very often. Eons ago, I looked for an apartment there, but it is such a very long commute that I changed my mind.

Then, too, there was the issue of the other thing that was active on the island back then, but I’ll let you talk about that when you get to it. ;-)

  10. Joy de vivre says:

My sister who lives in Rockaway Beach, Oregon and I in Grosse Pointe, Michigan watched you walk across the country. We loved your stories and photographs and admire your perseverance. She emailed me about your new challenge and we want to wish you a safe and happy 7500 miles in the New Year.

  11. Dorinda from Mentor, Oh. says:

So, did you go inside and get a mani/pedi first?

  12. Joisy Jeff says:

Man-e probably. Blindolded or just getting up from a long nap in preperation. By the way – some would argue that Staten Island is more NJ then NY…but I am no expert at that.

Hello Dorinda. Nice to “see” you.

Happy new year Matt and all.

  13. RuthE says:

Happy Days are here again! Be sure and talk to all of the business you stand in front of, they get free advertising and you might be able to pick up a donation or two!

  14. Gigi says:

This is getting exciting, good luck Matt! Have a great year!

  15. Tna says:

I like the words UV Light Concept posted behind a guy with a blindfold on.

  16. katzien says:
