A very nice woman named Betsy stopped to give me some food today, including this watermelon. Given the tools at hand (pocketknife, spoon, ground), I decided this would be the tidiest way to eat it. The hole grew in size, but the first cut made for the best picture.
YumO!!
open watermellon, insert bottle of vodka, wait 3 hours…..celebrate final night.
I like how you think, Jeff.
Only a Jewish kid from New York would cut a watermelon like that. It’s a good thing you’re not walking through the south with the skill set you aquire. You’d be less than half way by now. I suggest that if you ever get a cankering to try this again, go from west to east, throught the south, and do it in the winter. You will thank me for that part. We will also be happy to have you you come by and visit.
And you can go swimmin’ in it when you’re done!
Refreshing on a hot Summer’s day!
It’s amazing we typed the same word at the same time! Great minds think alike…
How refreshing!
mmmm mmmmm i do luv me some watermelon. : J
think there is enough to share….How many of us now…?
Notice how exacting the cuts are…darn near perfect angles. Too funny.
THAT is an engineer for ya! :)
we used to just throw them down on the ground and eat them with our hands.(when were little and thought we were getting away with something.)
Looks yummy!
Nuthin’ like a melon operation to test hand-eye co-ordination and fine motor skills.
LOOKS LIKE YOU VIOLATED IT. SHOULD HAVE BEEN SLICED
It sure is red and juicy. I hope it was delicious. Watermelon and watermelon juice is so refreshing.
Nothing says summer like a good watermelon! What a treat… thanks Betsy for giving Matt delicious food today- you rock!!
Gooey wet inside but makes for a pretty picture. That must be some pocket knife you’ve got there! What precise cuts on that melon. Like melon surgery out in the wild. Looks delicious and hope it didn’t attract to many bees or bears. lol.
The first cut is the deepest. Surgery to sing to.
Oh, and thanks to Betsy for finding you and giving you some fresh produce and food. What a wonderful woman.
Yes, thanks Betsy for finding Matt and giving him a watermelon treat. It looks slurpy good! It might even be the best he has ever had, being hot and tired (I imagine!)
Oh, and it reads that you gave him some food…so thanks for that, too. Obviously the watermelon was the highlight!
Thank you Betsy. Not to neglect you gave him groceries too. You may be the final provider. But you are just as important as the first. My fondest memory of providers, I don’t know why, was the girl with the pinkbag – who thought Matt was homeless and needed help. I wonder if she still folllows this. some knew he was coming…some did not and thought he was a person who needed help.
When I was hungry you gave me food to eat. Amen. So many times over. Thank you so very much Matt’s america.
Window to the soul.
Thank you, Betsy, for taking care of Our Matt!
Matt – that cut sure looks precise – are you carrying scalpels as well ?
P.S. Thanks to Betsy, for taking care of “our” Matt!
Matt, I’m sure your adrenlin is pumping now and how estatic you must be, to know you have accomplished such a feat, or at least your almost there. So many wonderful people across the land, “U.S. AMERICA” have reached out to offer assistance, food, lodging, money, etc. HOW AWESOME!!!! It has been so captivating and interesting to keep up with your daily trek. I feel like i was on the journey with ya~~~~not near as tired though, ha
So, so glad I found your story, close to the beginning, on yahoo. This has been a daily routine for me to see where Matt was surfacing…ha
I hope you have many friends to welcome you to Rockaway Beach.
