Day 802

160 East 92nd Street

March 11th, 2014

Built in 1852-53, this is "one of the oldest of the few intact nineteenth-century wooden houses which remain in Manhattan north of Greenwich Village, [dating] from a period in which many of the houses on the outskirts of the city were of frame construction (prior to the implementation of an overall ban in Manhattan, due to fire hazards)." According to the AIA Guide to New York City, Eartha Kitt once called this place home.

  1. I grew up directly across the street from this home. Wondering when Eartha Kitt lived there (160 East 92 Street NY, NY). This is the first I have heard of her living in this home. Thanks.

I lived directly across the street, my family still does. No one has ever heard of Eartha Kitt having lived there. My mother was obsessed with movie stars and that is something she definitely would have known, and definitely would have told me about. I’ve also done an exhaustive Internet search and asked two different AI’s to search as well and I’ve come up with no record of her ever having lived there. Sorry.
