I stopped in Major Hardware Supply in Boonton, NJ to pick up a few things. Raul asked me about my walk and then, when I was ready to check out, insisted on giving me everything for free.
I am truly moved by people’s generosity and support. I once met a guy who biked across over eighty countries and he surprised me by saying that America was his favorite because of the magnificent natural wonders and the welcoming nature of the people he met along the way.
I am deeply moved by this man’s gesture. I work/live in NJ…moved here about 11 years ago for a job and it’s been one tough decision to stay here…find people in general can be pretty cruel…Raul restores my faith that some of NJ still holds a cup of kindness.
People think I am naive but I say that ALL people are good & when faced with someone doing something amazing with nothing to gain but satisfaction in return want to assist. I just found your website today & hope to keep following you on your journey. I am just starting on a personal one of my own & am excited to see where mine takes me. Good Luck to you & stay safe.
Awww…this really warms my heart! It’s so nice to hear about good things, rather than all the negativity we have to endure on the news on a daily basis. Thanks SO much for bringing this us!
My daughter emailed me this link to your walk… I think this is fantastic! wish I had thought of doing something like this 30 years ago.. think I would have to use rollarskates though ! best of luck and I’ll be checking in often to see how your trip is going!
Just started reading your site. my sister told me about it. nice to know that there are still good people out there. restored my faith in humanity. keep it up and stay safe.
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
You can read all about the details of my trip
if you're so inclined.
you are seriously running into the best of America! Im so impressed with all of these people! Yay for that, it makes me happy! :)
Wow, I am having a lot of vicarious fun through your walk already & my faith in humanity has slightly increased! god speed, friend!
That’s awesome and next time I need some hardware I want to go to Boonton NJ for it. Hurray Raul!
Could you do me a favor and keep track of how people’s inclination to donate to your walk varies with your beard length?
Actually, yeah. I wonder how that will change. You didn’t pack a beard trimmer in that cart, did ya? :-)
I’m betting this is going to happen quite a bit. Folks recognize goodness.
hooray! i’m glad folks are being kind to you.
America F-yeah!
David says HAY RAUL.

That was very generous of the shop owner! This is the kind of person who should be remembered as a true American! Props to him.
I didn’t think that there were any nice people in or from NJ…way to go Raul…
