I'm walking across America.
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
You can read all about the
details of my trip

Bear looks smart:)
Mean looking bear!
aw what a sweet soul..
O look at that face!
I LOVE THAT DOG!!!
I envy you! You will see the American that most of us only hear about and you will be able to recharge both your heart and soul. Thank you for sharing your trip and the fact that you’ve confirmed that most people are fundamentally good.
Keep a walkin

Hi! Just read about you online. I live in Queens, not far from where you started your walk. You are in my prayers. Thank you for the photos of those you meet along the way. They’ve touched my heart, and affirmed my belief that America is still God’s country. God bless!
Hi there,
I do hope that you stay safe and enjoy this journey. What an awesome experience for anyone! I salute you for having the courage to go out there and experience life NOW and not wait for the so-called “Golden Years.” I am so glad you took a picture of our animal friends…genuine love coming from them you know. No questions asked…they just want to be loved back. If you ever do see Bear again, give him a bear hug for me and toss him a bone from Deb! Admire your courage: this will be an awesome learning experience for you. Thanks for sharing your pictures. God bless you!
I feel privileged to be able to follow your journey. Thank YOU for sharing! Stay safe!!!!
Thank you,my like is kinda stuck with responsabilitys right now,it’s nice to think of you walking thru our beautiful country.if you don’t mind i like to add my spirt to the many walking beside you!

Thanks for the wonderful pictures. I will be praying for you. If you have happen to find yourself in San Antonio, TX give us a ring.
Is that a REAL bear? Coz’ it looks like one. :))
FINALLY!!!!! I have caught up with you, Matt. I have been here for the last 14 hours catching up with you through your blog. I went through each picture and read each comment. I am in such a happy place right now! My wife is in the room with me and when I laugh and giggle. She say “What!” and I tell her about your funny friends and their comments :-). Like all of our family and friends, I will be here each day to enjoy your walk with you.
PHEW!!! The text on the webpage popped up before the picture did, and I saw “Bear” and got a little scared for you! I’m glad this one is friendlier than what I momentarily imagined. It sounds silly being concerned for the welfare of a person I will never meet, but I think what you are doing is important and touching to all that stop by your site or meet you on your adventure. God keep you safe and I hope you find what you’re looking for. Keep trekking and writing; you’ve got a lot of envious people living vicariously through you and we all know this is going to turn out really well! Just stop through the South when you’re doing stops on the tour for the book you should write!
You are AMAZING!! Just read about you on my internet homepage and found this website! I look forward to following you on your journey!! Happy walking from your supporters in Hawaii!!
That’s what I was concerned about, when u slept under my tree. I have Real bears that come to visit my bird feeders….but u left in one piece, so all’s well….Thanks for post card….I’m still following u!!!! Take care.
If Bear ever needs a new home…my door would be open to you, too, Matt, but you’re not coming our way.
Thank you. I will be keeping track. Ever since reading Blue Highways I thought of doing something similar to this and have yet to fullfill it to the extent I would prefer. I wish you well, and safe travels. I will be sending you good thoughts.
I love this dog face…safe journey to you….
Beautiful dog, his eyes say so much! As per my email to you, i admire you, Matt, and wish you the very best on your journey! As someone else said on here, you are seeing American that most of us don’t see, and you are meeting people with kind, caring, giving hearts. Good luck to you!
I TOLD YOU YOU’D SEE A BEAR!
