August 6th, 2010

Without it, I would have had to walk 0.2 extra miles!

  1. RAYMOND in ALABAMA says:

BEING FIRST TO COMMENT IS LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE THAT GETS SHUT DOWN OR CLOSED NOT MANY PEOPLE SPEAK UP ANYMORE. IN LOKING AT MATT’S PICTURES A ROUTE OF NICE LANDSCAPE WILL BE DONE AWAY WITH. KEEP UP NICE PICTURES MAYBE POLITICIANS WILL NOTICE AND QUIT SHUTTING DOWN EVERY ROAD TO SAVE FEW COINS.

  2. Jeff says:

I’m number two and feeling good about it….Blocked as always….but you know what is a extra 2/10 of a mile when you just did 2500….well those boots could use the break…so detour is good.

  3. Candice In Alabama says:

What does it mean by vacation – does that mean they won’t maintain it henceforth?

  4. MN Roxanne says:

I think it’s good that you got to use the road now… and not have to walk any extra steps… we could sign petitions to save the road!

  5. John K says:

A “vacation” is to redesignate right-of-way which allows for public unfettered use to private property. This is the legal way to remove a road and re-define the land beneath it. Right-of-way allows for the placement of public utiltiies, including gas, water, electrical, street lights, etc.

Normally, when a road is “vacated” the adjacent property owner has the opportunity to buy the land for their use. This can very well be a situation where there were previous plans to relocate the road somewhere else and swap the land where the new road will be for this existing road.
