Is this really asparagus? No wonder it’s so expensive at the store. It grows one piece at a time. I had no idea that’s how it grows. Learn something new everyday. I love this place. I’m gonna miss the education for sure.
Funny, I’ve always thought that when cultivating asparagus one did NOT want it to ‘re-seed’, but as a perrenial to send up shoots year after year (when treated right and kept well nourished). “Jersey Giant” being an all-MALE variety does not set seed… http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/1000/1603.html
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
You can read all about the details of my trip
if you're so inclined.
I love asparagus but this has gone to seed…. making more for next year!!
hmmm…need some shrimp, and garlic.
The soil looks dry.
My Mom had some asparagus growing in her side yard, way long ago. It was good to eat and reseeded every year.

No, this is not really asparagus. This is an example of Matt’s witty sense of humor. ;-)

Not a fan, but do grow it, that is how it re-seeds itself! Yea, Roxanne, you are #1.
