One of the reasons I love the NW is that the vegetation reminds me a lot of where I grew up, the Hudson river valley about 100 miles north of NYC. And while our winters are wet and grey, you don’t have to shovel rain!! This a wonderful picture and I’ll have to look at the map and try to find it myself. Thankfully the heat has abated and we’re seeing cooler temps.
washington most definitely has it’s share of the beauty as well..the two states are almost twins…. We took a drive out to the coast last fall, Started in Great Falls MT and looped up from Multnomah over to Nehalem and straight up 101 Until we got over to the Washington side from Astoria…The drive from there to Longview will leave you breathless!
This is geogeous and it looks very quiet and tranquil. I’ll bet the air smell fresh and the water and the birds are al you hear. I would certainly enjoy hiking in this territory.
Amazingly, I took the exact same photos 6 years ago when I saw it for the first time. It is an amazing road to travel. You’re so close now, I bet you can smell the ocean.
Wow. wow wow wow. This is a professional photograph for sure! This shot you could sell and make money off of. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this picture. This is the most awesmoeist, bodacious spectacular photo of nature with a bridge. The colors, the textures. I just LOVE this shot. This is the kind of shot that you find on a calendar of nature or something. This is awesome.
A little more about Matt and his walk…a good picture of him, I haven’t seen before…and a little about life…if interested…jre1.wordpress.com…or click above…
I have started taking a cycling class, and on some of our open road sections (stationarily speaking) I close my eyes and imagine I am somewhere calm. Matt’s pictures have given me lots of jumping off points. I can imagine I’m sitting in these trees and feel the wind and smell the sweet air. Of course, if a bear shows up, I’ll just pedal faster to get away.
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
You can read all about the details of my trip
if you're so inclined.
It’s kind of a magical place, that forest.
That it is a bridge and a forest…. not to many more miles. I’m going to miss the pics. Be safe :)

I just looked at the map and that is one very windy road, looks like some extra miles will be walked to make westward progress.
bridge + forest = one of the “coolest” pictures. Amazing how the terrain changes so drastically after you crossed the dam river. Lovely
yes after he crossed the dam/damned river… good bye washington state!
We’ve got gorgeous stuff like this on the WA side too…he was about to hit it when he crossed over the Columbia.

Matt has taken us through all kinds of BEAUTY.
This poem to me says it all about his walk!

Thank you Matt….
Thanks for the link, Don. The poem is so beautiful.
Perfect! Thanks for sharing, Don.
A wonderful picture…so green…
So many bridges in the “Green” part of Oregon seem so surreal…just beautiful…so much green around them…
Look at the moss on those trees…. talk about moisture… it’s so lush and beautiful- great shot Matt!

Even “bodacious”…now that is something!!!…but I bow to the gracious Dorinda from Mentor, Oh…wordsmithing for us all…
Ditto. We totally need a Matt calendar!
How could he possibly just choose 12 of his 1500+ photos for a calendar??? Too many great pics to just have a dozen.
WOW! All I have to say is to everyone following Matt’s journey is: What have you accomplished in the past 145 days?
Better typing skills?
Patience – waiting for Matt to get out of dead zones?
I’ve discovered more reasons to go to the Northwest. One of the few places I’ve never been, but you can bet I’m going now,
I have cut down on wasting time at work not doing work related stuff. Before Matt’s trip, I hardly got ANYTHING done!
I was hoping to see Bambi ..

Thank you for the link to your blog – I’ll be reading often!
Ditto, I enjoyed reading some of your entries on your blog
Breathtaking!
Also a bridge IN a forest. A beautiful bridge at that. I’ve got a “thing” about bridges, I guess. I sure do like seeing the pictures of them.
P.S. There is a nice older bridge in my area. I cross it occasionally traveling by auto – I need to park downtown someday and just WALK across it: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bibb_Graves_Bridge_Wetumpka_AL.JPG
Thanks Candice for sharing that. Would like to see that in full bloom in the springtime.
Candice
Thanks for sharing. You should walk across this bride in the fall of the year. I bet is is beautiful with color! Hope you are doing well.
Hobo Don
Tranquil. :)
My goodness Matt – unless you take a break – you are only 3 days away from Rockaway Beach! Wow!
He will be taking a bunch of country roads to adjust his time for people to meet him
I am going to miss checking in. I have been on this trip with Matt and Hobo nation, silent most of the time but enjoying it just the same ;- )
I believe that is on the Crown Point Highway also called the Columbia Historical Highway. Such a magnificent drive bountiful with beauty:)

this is my new wallpaper :-) lovely shot.
Looks like a bridge lost in time, in an enchanted rain forest.
