I'm walking across America.
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
You can read all about the
details of my trip

Here's my progress so far:
Is that an island? This is a beautiful picture
It kinda looks like a foggy scene in a scary movie
@Ashley – or The Goonies!
Would that be an Oregon island or Washington island or half and half? :-)
@YOUNG, it is SAND ISLAND in Oregon
Big thanks Karin and charlie! It was a tongue-in-cheek question but it’s always good to have things verified by you in-the-know folks. ;-)
Check out the entry from the Lewis and Clark journal:

The other day, you captured a picture UNDER I-84 and today a pic ABOVE I-84. You have this interstate covered…
Oh! So right, EDL. Way to connect the dots for us. ;-)
I have driven that highway many times.
I think that is an island called Sand Island and belongs to Oregon! Hey Matt you are about to pass Rooster Rock. Watch out for Nudies there! I think there use to be a beach there with sand, and it was known to be where naked people swam! I wouldn’t really know, Ha, ha.
Naked people get to swim too….? cool. Bathing suits are always optional.
Why would you have to “watch out” for nudies? They have nothing to hide. :-)
LOL !!!!!
So that would explain the “Get Naked” message back a few days? hmmm..
Good sluething! :-)
Back in my high school & college days, we had a pet name for Rooster Rock — another word for “rooster” — rhymes with “dock”…. ;-}
Wow! I’m just sitting here trying to imagine all the sensations you were experiencing at this spot. I am so envious at this moment.
And I thought it was a landing pad for a flying saucer.
Look at that scenery…nice!
Wouldn’t it be fun to go walk around that island??? Not pushing a cart though…. what a beautiful scene!
That is one huge island! Look at it compared to the vehicles on the highway. Nice picture!
Will you be walking through Idiotville? If so, be sure to let us know if it lives up to it’s name. I may want to visit.
Matt:”I’m King of the World!”. It’s what I thought of when I saw this, you looking down over this beautiful spot. Looks like rain though for your day? Hope not.
*makes note*
“Don’t get on a boat with Dorinda. It will hit an iceberg and sink”
this view looks like it could have been taken atop of Apple Blossom Scenic Drive in southeastern MN. Interstate 90 runs along the Mississippi River down here and there are plenty of islands for camping and picnicking. Thanks for the postcard – I’m glad to see you are arriving safe.
I have to share a this story:
We drove this route during a vacation in, oh, 2004 or so. We saw quite a few hitchhikers as we drove east from Multnomah Falls, most of them in some kind of shade because it was scorching hot. When we were out of the greeness and into the shadeless amber deadness, we drove past an old man with a gray beard, floppy hat, red plaid shirt and jeans walking with a donky laden with all kinds of cargo. I swear I saw a pickaxe. As we drove on I looked for roads leading off of I-84 that would explain where this guy came from. It had to be more than 20 minutes before any roads crossed our path. I asked my partner, “Did you see that guy about 20 minutes ago, with the donkey? Looked like a miner 49er? Where the hell did he come from?!” After a brief discussion we decided he was a ghost. *LOL* He’s become a legend in our family. I’m dying to know if anyone else has ever seen that guy.
For sure, Matt’s King of the World here in this picture (and many previous ones too) . Oregon is amazing, I had no idea.
