Looks like a submarine periscope. Is it from the yellow submarine Don in TN? For a few minutes there though I couldn’t even see where the mailbox actually was!
This mailbox drops the mail down a long tube to the bunnies that live in a large bunny warren underground! You have heard of hare mail, no? OR another theory might be that it is from a Japanese submarine that was found on the shores of the Oregon after WWII? Am I close?
That is the most awesome! Where in the world do you get one of those things – I don’t know what they are called – but something from a ship. I seem to remember Indiana Jones hiding in one of these?
One of the neatest things to do is visit a salvage yard. I love finding old iron gates for my yard. With a little imagination, and somd good finds, you too can make your own awesome mailbox…or whatever else comes to mind.
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
You can read all about the details of my trip
if you're so inclined.
Looks like something from Whoville.
Now that’s funny.

This is by far the most unique mailbox pic you’ve posted Matt.

Did you stick your head in there and shout to hear the echo, Matt? I would have!

Are you trying to say that my periscope does not work? You really know how to hurt a guy, don’t you? I may never recover. Everyone says-we hope so!
Oh no, I meant because you’re the song man I was trying to make a play on the “yellow submarine”. Get it? Beatles? Submarine?
I’m not Don, but I’m sure he won’t mind that I stepped in for him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lMMdUywFo4&feature=search
Very cool mailbox… I was waiting for “yellow submarine” song from Don…

It’s a funnel for some purpose – exhaust? or air intake? or something else?
