Ahhhhh hell no!
I was #1 but got a Marlboro man video and there was NO replies here! I was first dunno care what the server says!
I rock!
Well.. no Matt really rocks here… I am just a tag-a-long!
Rock On Matt… Rock On!
Saun in Ohio – There are 2 maps at the top of the page. One shows where he took each picture. You want to look at the little map on the right with the red line. keep double clicking on the map and you’ll zoom in. I believe this map is actually linked to his gps and shows where he currently is.
I am so happy for you and sad for me. I have really enjoyed following your journey. Thanks for all the “good times” on here reading posts, learning new things and looking through your eyes at some of America’s best people, places and things. Thanks to everyone posting for all the new things I’ve learned from you as well and for keeping things positive, which I believe is what Matt intended! Thanks again, Matt! Best Wishes for a great day tomorrow, wish I could be there!
Last county, Last Mountain range, last chance to ride the cart down a hill too. But you won’t … sticken to he plan.
Brother you will be missed. but for now…..let the party begin.
Hey, I FINALLY saw “hey, I’m walkin’ here!” I’m so glad we’re all just stalking the site…I mean checking in like ‘mad.’ A glass of vino, an update from Matt, funny musing from y’all….life is GOOD!!
Gift? Heck no. I want him to buy it, sing the heck out of it, and me earn some royalties when it’s played on the radio. It’s a cool beach/paradise/Mexico song, and nobody does them better than Kenny. It’s even copyrighted. You got connections??
Well, I’m betting on the six-degrees-of-kevin-bacon theory, I mean ‘seperation.’ If you know somebody who knows somebody, that get’s the ball rolling. I reached out to that wacky Kathy Griffin, because it’s right up her alley to do a stunt like this, but she never replied. ;-)
Kenny Chesney was born in Lutrell, TN which is actually a suburb of Knoxville and close to Maryville where I live. He goes to Tennessee football games some when in town.
Thanks Don. We are pursuing the usual/public avenues, but if someone knows a band member or a musician friend, etc, we might have a better (faster) chance at success. ;-) I’m hopeful!
btw, there is still two hours or so of daylight in the portland area, he might just take advantage of that before hunkering down for the night. (i still dont think tomorrow is a done deal)
that would be sooooo weird, if he didnt make it by that time……kind of odd for him to know zackly when he would walk in to town, seeing as how his entire itinerary on the day to day basis has been more…..casual.
Well, after looking at the street views, I think he’s pretty much down the mountains, according to the gps map, so it is at least on the flat side … just have to navigate around the curvy bits of coast.
Correctamundo Thomas, by all accounts he’s already in Tillamook and that’s just 15 miles from Rockaway. If he pushes a little tonight he could stroll into da Rockaway any time he feels like it. DONE DEAL!
Charlie,
This pic was taken yesterday and from that point he was only 31 miles away and descending, so he could probably finish today.
If he doesn’t he will have a very short walk tomorrow!
yes, i saw that he was 27 or so miles from the end. but i was under the impression that he only walked 15-20 miles daily, and in the mountains, and….and…..perhaps it is only in my head that i never want this to end.
Yeah for you Matt-that’s got to feel good. What an accomplishment. Congratulations! But for me, now I’m crying because it’s the end of a journey, our journey here. Makes me sad. I’ve loved coming here everyday and talking with all of you. I’m going to miss you, all of you. Lots of love spread around to one and all. Blessings in your life, each and every day. May He shine upon you from above. Even if you don’t believe, it warms my heart to know I’ve wished it for you.
Ok – per Flickr this photo was taken yesterday in Idiotsville. That means the poulation yesterday in Idiotsville was 1 person and a mattmobile. The sign says summit – coast – range so Matt was at the summit and he coasted down the range towards Rockaway Beach!
We have the Coasters Drifters and Platters who made records. We have heard Yakky Yak by the Coasters earlier (the fighting buffalos)
This is for all of the sentimetal people who are at a loss because the end is near.
I see the little map has been updated and he is now just a few miles east of Tillamook, about 18 miles from Rockaway Beach. He went easy today! I’m guessing that he will update his photos after dinner tonight. From where he’s at, if he leaves out by 8 or 9 that will put him at Rockaway Beach between 3 and 4 tomorrow!
This 57 yr old atty has enjoyed every step. Only wish I could be at the beach to greet. Where do we go next? This just can’t end!! Thanks for letting us tag along.
Matt, I have really enjoyed walking with you through your photos and the blog. I am an engineer as well and have enjoyed your humor probably more than most. This has been a bright spot in my day all spring and summer, So sorry it has to end but what a wonderful accomplishment. Put your feet up and have a cold one as you watch the sun set over the ocean tomorrow night. Hope you found the answers you were looking for on your journey and god bless you.
You absolutely can…it’s a great smell too. And the best part is that he will probably have awesome weather tomorrow. :) Perfect end to a most excellent journey.
Well, I always rolled up the windows because when you come out of the mountains you have a flat area to go through that is full of Tillamook Cows! They are the ones that make the cheese and the ice cream! So we sort of have to “bless them”. Matt might have to put a clothespin on his nose for a mile. Kidding!
I said that I probably wouldn’t post anymore. I am a very sentimental person. Too sad. Love you all and congrats Matt. It’s been real. Now if anyone can take one more song, this is the one that popped into my head tonight. We may never pass this way again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAH5zEtO0zU
Matt, I don’t like the word final…. I’m sure you’ll be walking in a new county sometime soon in the future and I hope you’ll continue to blog about it so we can walk with you… I’m glad this journey is ending smoothly for you and I trust Rockaway Beach will greet you proud!! So wish I could have been there..
Tillamook County….named after a local Native American tribe. Home to WWII US Navy Blimp (building still stands)….Fomous for it’s Tillamook Cheese Factory….and Matt Green walking from Rockaway NY to Rockaway OR!
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
You can read all about the details of my trip
if you're so inclined.
Congratulations Matt! Almost there, so happy for you. Cheers!
Ahhhhh hell no!

Thanks Alisa
The GPS map to the right is where he sends Mom and Dad his location before beddy bye time so they’ll know it’s all good.
Go Matt, Go! Almost there!

It’s the simple stuff, kat.
That’s right, it’s the little things that mean a lot.
“….the little things ARE the big things….”
I love that part of a poem I had read at my wedding…seems to resonate with me still after all of these years…it’s all good! :)
GO MATT GO!!! That’s so awesome you are almost there…Wow! Enjoy those last steps!!
sing us a song, yer the walkin’ man

Charlie
Like the song!
well, thank you, Don. that’s quite a compliment, coming from ‘the song-meister’!
rock on…appropriate take brother. the walkingman
Oh, so perfect. My sister and I wrote a song for Kenny Chesney…anyone know how we can get it to him or his manager???
For him to record, or as a gift for him?
Gift? Heck no. I want him to buy it, sing the heck out of it, and me earn some royalties when it’s played on the radio. It’s a cool beach/paradise/Mexico song, and nobody does them better than Kenny. It’s even copyrighted. You got connections??
Connections? Yep. Unfortunately not in the music industry. But I did live in Nashville for 10 years, does that count? I wish I could help you.
Well, I’m betting on the six-degrees-of-kevin-bacon theory, I mean ‘seperation.’ If you know somebody who knows somebody, that get’s the ball rolling. I reached out to that wacky Kathy Griffin, because it’s right up her alley to do a stunt like this, but she never replied. ;-)

You might try his website under fan club to find a way to get it ti him. Good luck!
Thanks Don. We are pursuing the usual/public avenues, but if someone knows a band member or a musician friend, etc, we might have a better (faster) chance at success. ;-) I’m hopeful!

According to the Rockaway Beach website, the whole town’s coming out tomorrow for Matt at 3 or 4. I think it’s pretty much a done deal.
that would be sooooo weird, if he didnt make it by that time……kind of odd for him to know zackly when he would walk in to town, seeing as how his entire itinerary on the day to day basis has been more…..casual.
The whole town is about 1200 peeps. ;-)

Thanks for the sentiment Dorinda. Don’t be sad.. all journeys have to come to an end eventually or we will never appreciate the new ones.
Matt, Many of us in Hobo Nation are in Rockaway Beach in spirit.. From OHIO to Joisey to TN and beyond. Congratulations on your final few miles!!
the world is watching Nick. And if it isn’t something extrordinary will pass them by.

I wonder if you can smell the ocean from the county line…or how close you have to get to it to be able to smell the salt air?
You absolutely can…it’s a great smell too. And the best part is that he will probably have awesome weather tomorrow. :) Perfect end to a most excellent journey.
