That “smile” is hilarious! I’m also going to miss following you. It’s something I look forward to each day. Thanks for the last several months of surprises and great photos from across the country.
Hey everybody, there will be people meeting and greeting Matt at his arrival today. No doubt there will be people taking videos with their phones too and posting the files to YouTube. Can someone keep an eye on YouTube and post video links for us?? My office blocks YouTube, so I can’t look for Matt videos, but it would be nice to see people’s perspectives of the arrival. Thanks all!
Greece calling: I am going to stay up tonight! A party of one! But I just can’t sleep through the momentous moment! Oh, I so wish I could be there to see it in person…..I think the RBCC will have a nice gathering for you, Matt.
Matt, you are one VERY special person. I don’t know if anyone has ever brought so many people clear across America (and Greece and even Japan) together as you have. What started out as a walk to clear your mind, ended up being so much more than that. I do hope you managed to “clear your mind” of whatever you wanted to clear it of. I hope you found some answers out there….but mostly, I just admire your ability to make a very big decision, and manage to do it! So many people can learn from this.
Anyway, Matt, thanks for the walk! It was great to share it with you. Stay well, keep happy, and God Bless. Give your mom and dad a big hug for being such wonderful supportive parents.
Is wishing that it wasn’t so difficult to get out of work. If I left right now from Seattle, I could be in Rockaway beach by 2:00ish. That is if there isn’t any traffic. Alas as it’s Wednesday I must be at work.
Go Sandy Go! This is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. Surely there must be some family emergency that needs your immediate departure! You’ll regret it if you “shoulda coulda woulda.” ;-)
Matt-You may not be of Finnish heritage but you do have “SISU”. You demonstrate all the elements that the Finn’s hold dear. I don’t know if there were moments of regret but quite obviously, your children and grand children will always have a tale to tell when they sit by a campfire. Continued success to you in all your endevors!
I enjoyed the trip – please let me know if you ever plan to take another walk around the block! Peace!
Matt, the Finn’s do make a bumper sticker that say’s “SISU”. If you want, I’d be happy to send you one – my treat! Just let me know. Iy would look great on your three wheeler.
Matt, I’ve only posted a few times but I have been following your trip from the very beginning. I just wanted to say THANK YOU!! You had your own reasons for setting out on this journey but along the way you have brought so many people TO the journey. These last 5 months have been a blast. To be able to “walk” with you across our great nation has been a privilege. You have renewed my faith in mankind to show generosity to strangers. I hope there will be many people to greet you as your “walk” ends in Rockaway beach, OR. Good luck in all your future endeavors and Thanks again for taking us along on your journey!!
Matt, thanks for allowing us to experience this journey with you. It’s been epic. Please walk back but come south, through Vegas and the southwest (as another trip up north would see you come up against some very cold temps in the coming months!). Consider this, what else do you have to do? Keep the hobo journey intact! I have no idea how I’m going to spend the first 30 minutes of work now that you’re not walkin. Thanks again.
Matt, you could not have stayed with a nicer family! I hope you have a great afternoon celebrating and a great trip back the east coast, if you’re heading back soon! Thanks for sharing such a great journey with us!
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
You can read all about the details of my trip
if you're so inclined.
A face only a mother could love. ;-)
Hey! Should should have stuck her tongue out for a lick like the bulldog a few months ago. Remember him?? Woof!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Looks like about 10 miles to go on the old Google map!
Awesome smile! hahahahahaha
Just wanted to say that I’ve really enjoyed watching you walk across America!
Thanks!!!
(You sure you’re not going to walk home???)
OK: so I don’t comment too much and the past couple weeks, I’ve been on vacation and have had to catch up quickly.
But, have you checked out the Rockaway Beach Chamber of Commerce site???
http://www.rockawaybeach.net/
very cool.
Thanks for the link!
Looks like a very happenin’ place to be!

I love Madelyn
Dogs are great. I’ve heard it said that “dogs aren’t our whole lives, but they do make our lives whole.” Smile-on Madelyn!

That is the cutest ugly dog I’ve ever seen!
Awwwwwwwwwww, I love that doggie!
He is like my Baxter Shannon
Oh, she smiled just for you, way to go Madelyn!
Matt, I think Madelyn could use that retainer of yours that you almost left behind way back when. Give that ugly pug a hug!
I am Madelyn’s Dad and she wanted me to tell you that she is beautiful…not ugly! HA! She does have really bad breath though!!!

P.S – that dog is hideous. Now people, don’t hate, I’ve got a dog just like her.

My mom has a poodle with that same underbite, snaggle toothed smile.
