Back in NYC’s bad old days (the 70’s and 80’s) it was immediatley obvious when you had crossed over the border in to the city. The first thing you saw was abandoned cars on the road side and then you’d hit a giant pothole. There was a good business in selling the hubcaps collected from the side of the road (and stolen). The hubcap sellers typically were situated right by the border because if you were going to lose one. it’d be within the first mile. Because of the high water table this road must have been notorious for potholes.
Where this car dealer is now, just over the border, was the site of one of the dealers. They had hundreds on display.
