Day 3136

Walk with the wind

July 31st, 2020

"When historians pick up their pens to write the story of the 21st century, let them say that it was your generation who laid down the heavy burdens of hate at last and that peace finally triumphed over violence, aggression and war. So I say to you, walk with the wind, brothers and sisters, and let the spirit of peace and the power of everlasting love be your guide."

- From an essay by John Lewis, one of our greatest walkers, written shortly before his recent death

  1. Brad says:

    Thanks for the links Matt.
This was a great history lesson for an Aussie who tries to take every opportunity to learn.
It saddens me though, that 55 years after the Selma to Montgomery marches there is still the need for the Black Lives Matter movement. I hope that my daughter and her generation can at some point live in a society where everyone, no matter what their colour, sex or financial position, is treated with kindness, compassion and fairness.

  2. Stuart Williams says:

    Amen, Brad!

  3. Carlos says:

Great to see you posting and still working on your NYC project, Matt. I hope you’ve been healthy and well. In the meantime, thanks for this inspirational quotation from John Lewis! Take care, my friend! carlos

  4. admirer from europe says:

Hey man you walked across the USA and then
all over NYC, no need for virtue signalling :)

  5. Barnett Parker says:

I loved when you left stones on your grandparents’ headstone. Mazeltov on a remarkable adventure. You are rich beyond wealth.

  6. Krzysztof Zwierzchowski says:

Wow, I’m impressed. I just watched a movie about you and traveling in NY. Greetings from Poland Matt !
