Day 129

Return of the Finger

August 2nd, 2010

I'm getting sloppy!

Barbara (left) maintains a beautiful garden right beside the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes, and hands out free seed packets to passersby. I got Sweet William and foxglove, which I'll plant somewhere on down the road. Barbara also writes the names of her visitors on colored plastic balls (like those you see in the background) that she displays in the garden. Frankie (center) and McKenna were just passing by and stopped to chat.

The finger returns, but not in silhouette this time. Nicely captured flesh. And a wonderful group of ladies who apparently love gardening!

    • Candice in Alabama says:

Great smiles again! Glad Matt got a picture of some locals!

      • Jeff in Joisy says:

creepy scary horror music interlude…with respect to the finger. Hail Barbara….grow the garden and share the beauty with visitors….now that is called…passing it on. Blessings you to you my dear lady

  2. charlie says:

interesting choice of spelling on that sign behind the young girl…..BEAREE PATCH…..

  3. chris says:

Don’t eat the foxglove. A compound from the plant is extracted for the active ingredient in digoxin, a medicine for people with heart failure and atrial fibrillation. It’ll through your heart rate and electrolytes out of order.

  4. Gigi says:

What a great thing to do, handing out seed packets to passersby so anybody can enjoy nature’s gifts. And I think Barbara is a little like you Matt. She puts the names of her visitors on those colored balls for she “may never meet them again.”

  5. deanna valenti meyer says:

How great is that? I agree with Gigi…that is very neat to hand out seed packets AND name the colored balls. I like it!

    Matt…watch that finger, mister!

  6. MN Roxanne says:

  7. Dorinda from Mentor, Oh. says:

I love little McKenna’s smile in this, it’s just precious. She’s so cute! Love the whole garden there too and the wall of names.

  8. katzien in austin says:

Awesome!! I mentioned the wildflower seeds packets way back, so I’m glad to see you’ll finally be spreading some wildflower seeds. Thanks to Barbara and her efforts for Mother Nature! (Did it take anyone else a few mintues to figure out the ‘finger???’)

  9. Janine says:

Now I want to be Barbara when I grow up. But I want my name to be Frankie. And I want McKenna’s hair. <3

  10. Don in Tennessee says:

    Matt

A fine example of the beautiful, loving and caring people you have met. Looks like Barbara is a fine gardener and I too like the giving of packets of flower seeds to people walking by her garden. I wonder if McKenna is the granddaughter of Frankie? It also looks like Frankie has a plastic bag to do what – maybe pickup trash as she walks like BIG SCOTT. McKenna looks so sweet.

As for the finger these fine lovely people made you SHADOW DANCE AGAIN -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcHlL6PR5NU

  11. deb says:

That is so great! You know…too many times we say, “I’m bored” or spend hours simply staring at the TV. But people like Barbara fill their days creating beauty with meaningful labor and share the love. Well done!

  12. Jonathan says:

Careful not to eat the foxglove. Mom told me they’re poisonous.

  13. Paul says:

The moving finger clicks, and having clicked, moves on …
