I spent the evening sitting on the deck with Liz and Ronnie, drinking Korbel (brandy) and soda, and watching the sun set: a beautiful end to a long, hot day. When their son Carl and his girlfriend came home later, we all had dinner together.

Side note: I recall a similar journey published by a guy in the OC Register newspaper way back in the early 80’s. He did the trip by bicycle,..and also had a wonderful trip. Encountered wonderful warm friendly people.
I once read the reason we Sconnnies like brandy so much is that French trappers and explorers brought it into the region back in the 15 and 16 hundreds. That may be as much legend as fact.
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
