Day 74

The grotto

June 8th, 2010

Inspired by something similar he saw in Michigan, Eymard built this over the course of four months in 1990, spending countless hours searching for rocks that were the right shapes and sizes (every stone used in the grotto is as he found it; none were split or altered to fit). The water cascading over the steps passes through a screen at the bottom to filter out debris and is then pumped back up to the top to begin the downward journey all over again.

Very pretty. They almost look like front steps to the house.

  2. Karen Too says:

This took him only four months? I can see so many reasons why you would be drawn to this structure.

  3. Angelica says:

It’s awesome that he was able to create something so beautiful all on his own. Most people don’t know how to do that anymore.

  4. Gabin says:

Pretty neat plumbing. I, however, would have used marbles, on the steps of the fall.

  5. You Missed my house in Wabasha, MN. i figured you went right past here but I think I saw you. You are doing great. You should turn around and come back! Then you could stay here! I have 3 very curious preschoolers would provide the entertainment. Can’t wait for an update guy! Find more Alpacas (sp).

  6. Laurenis says:

That is an impressive work of art, indeed! Very nice people, and there isn’t much better than fresh strawberries from the garden!
