Day 109

The Tim birdhouses

July 13th, 2010

The one on the right contained a bag full of notes from various friends passing through the area (as well as two Werther's Originals). I added a little message to the collection.

  1. Gigi says:

This is cool. but who gets to read the messages? Maybe the birds will use the paper for their nests?

  2. Carolyn says:

What clever message did Matt leave? Maybe Matt can use pigeon carrier if he is out of range again.

  3. Karen Too says:

A great idea, and way to leave messages in such a remote area.

  4. MN Roxanne says:

    Dear Tim….
    What’s new since ’92 ?

  5. My thought was it could be a roadside tribute to Tim? Maybe he died there or something? Not to be a downer on this one, sorry, but it’s what I thought about after looking at it awhile. Especially with the notes in there. In the cemetery where my parents are there are things left all over some of the headstones so this wouldn’t surprise me if this isn’t what this is. And to that there is a date on the boxes. God Bless Tim.

    • Candice in Alabama says:

I’m wondering also, Dorinda. This is certainly different – if it is a roadside tribute.

  6. katzien in austin says:

I wonder what you wrote, Matt. What an interesting thing to come across in the middle of nearly-nowhere.

  7. Cara says:

    The original ‘geocache’…=)

  8. Jeff says:

Roadside memorial would be my guess, having nothing else but the picture to go on. Matt would know because of the ‘notes’. RIP if so, If not….cool little thing.

  9. Craig (Yeah..in NC!) says:

I looked couldn’t find nothing on the date/name etc… not even about leaving notes for the dead via birdhouses but I guess it’s a cool thought.
I did find a thing on a 91 year old woman that owned the same car for almost 50 years and it has over 500,000 miles on it and still runs and she still drives it!

  10. Anna One in CA says:

I’m baffled, and curious. Why bird houses if a memorial. And why two…hmmm. Or why two with the same date of a memorial…Glad to “hear and see” from you Matt. Be safe…

  11. Ron says:

Maybe a baby that was born and died on the same day? (Not to be a downer or anything, but I’ve known families where this has happened.)

  12. Janine says:

I would’ve left a note, too. Love stuff like that!

  13. Dana says:

Darn, no luck finding out about the birdhouses on my end either. Now I am curious. What route were they on? I might make a side-trip.

  14. Dianna in Arvada, Colorado says says:

I think poor Tim loved birds. Maybe he died here watching the birds and not the traffic?
