This mailbox even has a chimney so you can keep your cold cash mailed to you or to be maied to someone warm. That is what I call a smoking hot mailbox!!!
I am extremely impressed by the speed Matt is going. I hope he doesn’t feel rushed. I think he should slow down and enjoy some time with more people he comes in contact with. Rest before the mountains.
I’ve been thinking that myself. Hope even at his pace, he is enjoying his journey and not feeling “rusehd” or “pushed”. I hope he taking time to truly enjoy the sights/people to be seen/met along the way.
Wow, do y’all see those wires going down like a suspension system below the mailbox. I bet this mailbox can be lowered down for when wide loads on tractors have to pass through. Just an obeservation. That would be a super awesome mailbox if that is the case.
wow…ya think we will hit 50 awesome mailboxes …for 50 states of America.
I like this one…and agree…the mailman takes extra care not to drop a letter or two.
A miniature house mailbox complete with a chimney .. love it, as well as the little prancing horse. It says something like “Grandpa’s Farm”. Did you stay here last night Matt?
I have been meaning to ask someone….. I do not know what those grates are for. I know that you guys have been making comments about cattle crossing, but how do these things help? Just curious. Comments anyone?
Posts back a ways some people out West answered it but I will try. Cows won’t go over them because they are open to a “trench” below and the cows are afraid of falling in. I know, it’s probably a horrible explanation from this Ohio gal but it’s got something to do with there being no solid ground underneath them and the fear of it, the opening below the grate. Does that help in some small way to explain it?
I used to live in Montana and saw these all the time. The cattle/cows cannot maneuver across so it keeps them from roaming. Cows are not the brightest animals in the barn but they are my favorite farm animal.

That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
You can read all about the details of my trip
if you're so inclined.

Love your caption!
A ‘grate’ way to keep the cattle out of your mail.

LOL!! Really. Those darn cows always taking your mail.
This is one really cute mailbox. I like it.
good spot not to get got by the snow plow, and easy access – great idea

I think the wires are a barrier to cow-type critters evading the grate and escaping under the mailbox. Cows steal mail and they run whent hey do it.
Maybe those are there for the blowing snow in winter…keep things as they are supposed to be…as it were. :)
I bet they are holding the fence post secure in its foundation. Interesting.
What happens when you drop a letter??? Then you need a fishing pole to rescue the mail…
It is a cute mailbox… certainly original !
I’m glad I was not the only one wondering this as well!

Does Grandpa’s Farm raise Tennessee Walkers?
I just see broken ankles…anxiety over getting TO the mail and what’s IN the mail.
I just hate it when a cow steals my mail, damn cows!

Thanks so much for responding! Makes perfect sense now!

Brings back memories. I could always tell when the cattle arrived in Butte. Guess how?!
