Tall trees
July 27th, 2010
I'm walking across America.
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so. If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out. If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania. You can read all about the details of my trip if you're so inclined.

Very pretty sky! Makes me wish I could have been outside at sunset instead of working at the computer!
What a great shot. It’s like the tip of the trees were trying to nudge the clouds.

Only a few more days of Big Skys…..then it will be Oh Potatoe.
My girlfriend and I had the good fortune to be able to talk to Matt along the highway near Ovando Mt. on the 25th . What a treat to be able to share a cold root beer and wish him luck on the rest of his trek. The scenery along the south edge of the Mission Wilderness and Matt’s excellent photography should be spectacular. This is our first post and we’ve been following the blog for about a week and a half.

Yea…we should take a moment knowing how special this part has been – even though matt did not travel the parts hit…they are our brothers and sisters of America and they are in our prayers and thoughts surely….especialy how we have all grown to love the “Big Sky” state.

I am following Matt as well. I look forward to seeing on the map where he is. His journey across the US highlights that Americans are as giving as they have always been. Just takes someone like Matt to show us again how generous we are.
You know how a candle flame in a still room will ‘grow’ and become really still and tall and skinny?? These trees look like that as they’re reaching for the sky.
So true Katzien. Now I understand where old bandits and desperados got the expression: “Reach for the sky!””
to tell how tall a tree(or building or whatever) is, take the distance away from the object, at ground level, take the angle looking at the topmost point of the object, …….and then what? there’s a geometry equation in there somewhere, it’s just been too long ago for me to remember
Just saw this article in the news posted 2.5 hours ago…… Jack Hanna wards off grizzly with pepper spray while hiking in Montana’s Glacier National Park….of course, once you read the article it says ‘the mother and one cub passed by and the other cub weighing 125 lbs (how did they know that, did they stop and take the weight?!?!?) charged so he sprayed it in the face and it ran away. it also says he recently taped a PSA for the national park service encouraging hikers to carry pepper spray.

Seriously, I have never been to your great state but I sure am getting a much better perspective and apprecaition for your wide open spaces and all of you friendly and kind hearted residents of BIG SKY COUNTRY!.
Have the trees grown into the clouds or have the clouds fallen to the treetops. Makes me remember when I was a kid and I climbed trees – makes me want to climb one of these and touch the clouds.

This is my first post, I have been following Matt as well. I had to comment on this part of the journey because my family is from Montana and WA State (I haven’t lived there in years) but it is so beautiful the landscape! (Makes me want to move back!)
