Coon Valley is the hometown of former Major League Baseball Player Scott Servais, who is probably best known as being the Cubs catcher the day Mark McGwire broke Roger Maris’ home run record. Servais told McGwire “Congratulations, you’re awesome” when he crossed the plate.
My Dad and family are from Coon Valley, WI. Most people have never heard of it! Lot’s of bars and churches for such a small town :)
Best wishes for the rest of you journey!
I love the geographical specificity of the “no snowmobile parking” note.
FYI growing up I was taught a fjord is a cliff with a sharp drop, but it’s actually the valley caused by glacier run-off. An important distinction that has nothing to do with this bar!
I saw you in Coon Valley Kwik Trip the morning you were passing through our village. Didn’t realize at the time, however, that you were on this great journey, but did suspect that might be the case (homeless folks don’t typically wear Columbia shorts!). I now regret not taking the time to stop and to talk to you as I rushed off to work! It reminded me of a book I read a while back – Walk Across America.
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
You can read all about the details of my trip
if you're so inclined.

Happy Birthday!

Good luck to you!
In Los Angeles, we can park our snowmobiles ANYWHERE WE WANT! I mean, there are no signs saying not to at least…
This makes me think about Douglas Adams and the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Also cool: The annual celebration of his work took place yesterday.
Slartibartfast taught me what a fjord was.
Um, actually it was the Tuesday 25th. Whoops.
Is there also a “Chjevrolet” Bar?
