Sunset Park, once a stronghold of Scandinavian immigrants, is now home to a bustling Chinatown.
Home to 9/11 memorial #47, this pier was once a terminal for ferry service to Staten Island. The ferry operated for many years, but was discontinued in the 1960s after the Verrazano opened.
This little shack contains a valve chamber for a city water supply tunnel running hundreds of feet beneath the surface, bringing in water from the Catskill Mountains.
Like the Bedford-Atlantic Armory, this facility is currently being used as a homeless shelter.
