I read an article a while back detailing the fun things people did with cabooses when they were phased out. Apparently at one point you could buy them for a song … the major expense was moving them … but they were well- constructed and they could be used for all manner of habitations and additions if you didn’t mind the obvious space limitations.
An Ashland friend’s parents moved a caboose to a bluff above the Great Wicomico River on Virginia’s Northern Neck years ago. They added a boxcar later so that there were bedrooms to go along with the kitchen and living space in the caboose. It served as a wonderful getaway. Many have happy memories of that place.
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
You can read all about the details of my trip
if you're so inclined.
My kids would LOVE that!!

Maybe it’s someone’s trailer in the caboose’s back yard.

Shake what Burlington Northern Santa Fe gave ya!
Reminds me of a book I read called “the Boxcar Children”
Another Re-use/Recycle idea put into practice. Great!
I loved The Boxcar Children
I loved the Boxcar Children!!
In Kalamazoo, MI (Alamo Township), a 1910 Pullman railroad car was converted to be part of a restaurant called The Club Car. One of my fave places.
