When my husband and I were in college we called these “rock traps” and would discuss how sad it was to see so many innocent rocks trapped like that. We wondered what they used for bait: pebbles, gravel?
i think it’s to prevent it from being knocked down? I doubt our mailboxes will be as interesting in the west I think the mailbox ones are some of my faves!
this is my favorite! the best is when people “fix” their box in this manner or use a plastic five gallon bucket and fill it with sand.. or cement. it’s really cute.
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.

kinda waiting for mailboxes with targets on them. maybe in NoDak or Montana?
