Day 111

A self-portrait of sorts

July 15th, 2010

That's me reaching for a water bottle, digitally captured by the Lewistown Divide weather station camera. Thanks to Candice for the photo idea!

Matt you could pass for one of the ice cream cart vendors that walk around L.A.

  2. Dennis in So Cal says:

It looks like you have more traffic going by now that you are on Highway 87. Hopefully you will have more human contact. Ever wonder what would happen if your car broke down on Highway 200 between Jordan and Winnett. Apparently there is no cell service. Would you have to walk a day or two to get help?

  3. Larry from NJ says:

Nice to see you back online. I’ve been looking for days for an update. Kinda sad that it’s almost done. Thanks Matt for the great pics and the story that goes along with it.

  4. Jeff says:

I just sent Candices version to everyone …and here Matt goes and steels my thunder. Thanks matt…you got the best shot of them all. I think I am buying a droid. You would make a good droid salesman with all you shots. Peace brother…stay hydrated.

    • Gigi says:

This is a little clearer than the pic you sent Jeff. Thank you for sending it and to Candice for the original version.

Btw, is that an awesome mailbox just right across?

    • Candice in Alabama says:

Matt’s droid has almost made ME want one. I’m still using my old Nokia. It doesn’t have a camera, keyboard, etc. I just use it for “talking” emergencies. I did go and check out Matt’s Motorola phone on the Motorola web site. It is AMAZING to have such technology at your fingertips and available ALMOST everywhere you go (except for at least 1 long lonely stretch of road in Montana).

  5. Karen Too says:

That’s exactly the shot I saw on the link from Candice. How cool is that!

    Thanks again, Candice.

  6. Don in Tennessee says:

Since the motel has touch phones, was the camera at Lewistown a BROWNIE or POLAROID?

Matt- Did you sell any ice cream to the people in the vehicle-you know-like a BROWN COW?

  7. Dixon Harper says:

Matt, this old man in NC follows you every day. Enjoy the pictures and comments. Saw your uncle Bill Leslie last Friday at the Highland Games on Grandfather Mountain.

  8. Lisa in Goldsboro NC says:

    That is waaaayyyyyy coooolllll !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. carolyn says:

thanks Candice and Matt. the new book cover

  10. Angelica says:

Nice! Hi Matt! btw I just noticed, according to your current map it says that you started your walk in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

  11. Sarah from CA says:

Matt – I don’t see your orange vest!

  12. Robert, Kansas says:

Matt, you are helping to renew faith in people for many others. A lot of great folks around our America. Thanks for the beautiful pics. Have you in our prayers.

  13. MN Roxanne says:

Can’t tell but I know you were smiling Matt… just like you did when I drove by you the first time I saw you!

  14. Candice in Alabama says:

This pic looks better to me on Matt’s web site than what I actually captured! (Oh – maybe it my really nice monitor at home – versus – my “at work” monitor).

  15. Candice in Alabama says:

Matt – I got a really BIG kick out of seeing you “captured” by that weather station tower camera – thanks again for holding still long enough!

    Or were you mesmerized!?!?!?! :)

You are a sweetie in my book! Again, I’m enjoying your journey immensely and thank you again for sharing all the wonderful images and blurbs.

Wishing you the best, safe travel, hope you meet bunches of more kind, friendly folk and am sending you a HUG from myself for making my day!

    Candice in Alabama

  16. Cara says:

Matt? or a Yeti? Will we be seeing this photo capture on ‘Unsolved Mysteries’?

  17. Chaser1 says:

LoL he should have waited and did a sexy dance for the camera for the next update. Cus that would have just cracked me up. For most of the rest of matt’s trek I should recognise the terrain. I drive through that route once every year. There should be a gas station called Eddie’s somewhere along the way. It stands out to me considering that that’s my name. :D

  18. Barb V from Michigan says:

Very cool! And thanks for posting it, Matt! Some of us were too focused at work to realize what was going on until way too late. :)
