That was Dan's reply when I told him about my trip. And after baking out in the sun for hours, I couldn't have asked for a better ending to the day: beers, a shower, and a real bed!
Beautiful, Kind, Wonderful Warshinigtonits…Thanks for your generous spirit and friendly help to a road weary traveler, may you be paid forward in the future.
Pushed the wrong button, hope this doesn’t show up twice!
Ruthie: Moot point….in Washington they refer to themselves as “Washingtonians”! And I agree with all the rest, this is a great family. The cold beer on a hot day has to been more than wonderful, not to mention a shower and a bed. Thanks for the kindness extended to Matt.
Thanks folks. Matt’s been providing us with pictures and updates daily for the last several months, which has let us vicariously take his walk with him. We all appreciate your inviting him in, and making him comfy for a night. Thanks again, and blessings to you all.
Matt,
You were treated like a “King” last night. I’ll bet when he asked if you wanted a beer, you said, “is it wet, and is it cold?” I think it was near 100 degrees yesterday. A REAL BED! It’s been a while since you slept in a real bed. I’ll bet it felt so good you didn’t want to leave it this morning.
Thanks Dan, Michele and boys for your hospitality to Hobo Matt!
Cute family and cute place. Glad you found some relief from the extreme heat. I can see from your Mom’s post she was pretty worried about you. Hope you had a good rest on that bed they offered you!
Whoo hoo!! Thank you so much to Colyn, Dan, Michael, Michele for taking in our Chief Hobo. He’s almost to the finish line and we are all cheering him on. You are a beautiful family and we all welcome you to the Hobo Planet!
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
You can read all about the details of my trip
if you're so inclined.

I think the kid on the left is a beer drinker too.

Hey Michele, Colyn, Michael, Dan-gather round
Listen to what I’m putting down
you know me, ‘imjustwalkin’ Matt
I’m not the kind to use a pencil or rule
I’m handy with walkin’; I’m no fool
coast to coast I go, I know that I truly can
If your tired spirit should need a lift
Than this journey to you I give
great people and scenes, you tell all your friends
They’ll come runnin’ to see
Here is the main thing that I want to say
I’m walking 14 hours a day
I walk for my friends, I know that I truly can…
Wow, young, another great one. Thank you.

Have you been leaving chalk hearts on the doorsteps of these kind people to show other hobos a kind-hearted family live indoors?
The kindness of the peopple Matt meets along the road never ceases to amaze me. How generous!
I wonder if blackberry cobbler was on the menu?
This will be bittersweet when you hit the “Bridge”. Don’t know what it will be like without this “follow-along”…..
Looks like a great group of folks! Nice people just make life worth living!
Awsome,
America!-Land of the free and free beer too !
Hooray! Thank you Dan, Michele, Michael and Colyn for being so hospitable to Our Matt!
